Lingnan position

Department of Chinese
Associate Professor/Assistant Professor in Modern Chinese Literature 
(Post Ref.: 14/89/MCLC)

The Department of Chinese (http://www.LN.edu.hk/chi/) offers courses at both bachelor and postgraduate levels.  The Bachelor of Arts (Hons) degree programme includes areas of classical, modern and contemporary Chinese literature, Chinese language and linguistics, comparative literature and literary theories, as well as media, news and creative writing.  The programme emphasizes multi-perspective literary studies as well as creative writing and communicative skills.  The appointee will teach mainly in the areas of modern literature and culture.  He/She is also expected to contribute to the Department’s various research and teaching initiatives.

General Requirements

Candidates should have a PhD degree in the relevant discipline.  For appointment as Associate Professor, candidates should have at least five years of relevant experience and a good track record in research and scholarly activities.  For appointment as Assistant Professor, candidates should have relevant teaching experience (at least three years) and publications.  In the case of stellar credentials, the University may consider making an appointment at the rank of Professor.

Lingnan University is fully committed to the pursuit of excellence in both teaching and research.  The appointee should demonstrate commitment to teaching and research excellence.  For appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor or above, candidates are required to provide information on their research records and evidence of quality teaching.  Administrative experience will be an advantage.  Excellent communication and presentation skills are essential.  The appointee is expected to have a strong commitment to teaching excellence and services to the Department and the University community, and to engage actively in quality research and publication.

Appointment

The conditions of appointment will be competitive.  The rank and remuneration will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.  Fringe benefits include annual leave, medical and dental benefits, mandatory provident fund, gratuity, housing benefits and incoming passage and baggage allowance for the eligible appointee.

Appointment will normally be made on an initial contract of three years, which, subject to review and mutual agreement, may lead to longer-term appointment or substantiation.  For new appointee at the rank of Professor, appointment with substantiation will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
