Women’s Space in Late Imperial China–cfp

Dear MCLC list members,

We are accepting paper abstract submissions for the panel titled “Women’s Space in Late Imperial China” to be held at the AAS 2024 Annual Conference. This panel will focus on the exploration of women and agency in literature and art during the Ming and Qing dynasties, specifically examining the dynamics within and outside the inner chambers of cultivated gentry women. We welcome contributions from various genres and disciplines. Potential topics and themes may include but are not limited to the following:

  • Female-male interactions in literary and artistic production and circulation
  • Female agency and the literati tradition
  • Womanly virtue and poetry
  • Love, sexuality, and eroticism within and beyond boudoirs
