Cultural Revolution Today conference

We would like to cordially invite you to attend the Cultural Revolution Today: Literature, Film, and Cultural Debates to be held in the University of Hong Kong on June 2-3, 2016, co-organized by the French Centre for Research on Contemporary China (CEFC), the Department of Comparative Literature HKU and Center for the Study of Globalization and Cultures.

May 2016 marks the 50th anniversary of the launching of China’s “Great Proletarian Cultural Revolution.” This conference reconsiders the Cultural Revolution’s enduring impact in China and beyond, looking at literary, cinematographic, visual and intellectual productions by attempting to understand their relevance to contemporary China in a global context. The conference will consist of presentations of fifteen to twenty minutes in length, and English will be the language used for the event.

This is with great pleasure that Julian Ward (University of Edinburgh), Pang Lai-Kwan (Chinese University of Hong Kong), Gisèle Sapiro (EHESS – School for Advanced Studies in Social Sciences) and Michael Berry (University of California Santa Barbara) will join us as invited speakers for the conference.

Please feel free to circulate this information among anyone that may be interested.
