Modern Chinese Literature Newsletter, a precursor to Modern Chinese Literature, which in turn became Modern Chinese Literature and Culture, is now available online through JSTOR. The newsletter was published from 1975 to 1981 and was edited by Michael Gotz. In a preface to the first issue of the newsletter, Cyril Birch wrote: “There is a great deal of work to do before modern Chinese writers can be discussed with the kind of sophistication which commonly operates on their Western or Japanese confreres. The people to do the work are numerous enough, and scattered enough, to make this newsletter a precious vehicle for communication and cooperation.
