Susan Sontag Foundation Translation Prize 2014

The winner of this year’s Susan Sontag Foundation’s Translation Prize is Canaan Morse for his sample translation of Ge Fei’s The Invisibility Cloak. Canaan will be known to MCLC subscribers for his contributions on literary translation and other matters. Ge Fei’s The Invisibility Cloak was the winner of the 2104 Lu Xun prize for literary translation in the novella category. The Susan Sontag Translation prize is a grant of US$5,000 awarded annually to a translator under the age of 30; this year’s award was for a translation from Chinese to English. The judges were Eileen Cheng-yin Chow, Chenxin Jiang, Bonnie S. McDougall, John B. Weinstein and Yao Junwei. The judges’ panel was chaired by David Rieff, director of the Foundation.
