Join OSU Extension and the College of Veterinary Medicine for the 2024 Cattle Herd Health Seminars. The seminars will be held on January 19 in Jackson and January 26 in Caldwell.
Both locations will have the same agenda covering emerging herd health challenges as well as addressing large animal veterinary shortages across greater Southeastern Ohio. Speakers and topics for the program are as follows.
Dr. Risa Pesapane – Tick Borne Diseases. Dr. Pesepane will focus on the Asian Longhorned Tick and the emerging disease Theileria orientalis that can be devasting to cow-calf and dairy production. Theileria cases are increasing in occurrence in Ohio, are you prepared?
Dr. Joe Lozier and Dr. Andy Niehaus – Calving and Dystocia Management & Foot and Hoof Care. Drs Lozier and Niehaus for the College of Veterinary Medicine will share some of the services that the OSU Veterinary Medical center offers as well as what can be done given the shortage of large animal practitioners in the region.
Seth Clark – Vaccination Programs for Cow Calf Herds. Seth is the territory manager for Merck Animal Health and will cover vaccination options for the cow-calf enterprise.
Garth Ruff – Marketing Herd Health Programs. Wrapping up the day will be Garth Ruff, OSU Extension Beef Cattle Field Specialist discussing how to market herd heal programs to capture a premium on weaned calves.
