The Ohio Cattlemen’s Association hosted their annual Seedstock Improvement Sale on April 9 at the Union Stock Yards sale facility in Hillsboro. A total of 43 yearling and two-year-old and older bulls were sold for a total of $114,700 to average $2,667 per head. This represents a nearly $600 per head decrease over the previous year’s sale, but an average price similar to the what was experienced in 2014.
The top three sales of the day were consigned by Way View Cattle Co. LLC of Hebron, Ohio. The high-selling bull was Lot 1, an Angus bull sired by Connealy Game Changer. He sold for $4,300 to Davidson Farms of Washington Court House, OH. The second high-selling bull was Lot 6, an Angus bull sired by Connealy Tobin 8400. He sold for $4,200 to Adam Fout of Beaver, OH. The third high-selling bull was Lot 3, an Angus bull sired by Connealy Quick Fix. He sold for $3,750 to West Wind Farm LLC of Mt. Sterling, OH. The fourth and fifth high-selling bulls were consigned by Atterholt Farms of Jeromesville, OH. The fourth high-selling bull was Lot 22, an Angus bull sired by Connealy Right Answer 746. He sold for $3,600 to Jewel Farms of Marysville, OH. Rounding out the top five sellers was Lot 33, an Angus bull sired by Connealy Confidence 0100. He sold for $3,500 to Davidson Farms of Washington Court House, OH.
A total of 24 Angus bulls sold for an average of $2,929/head. Eight Red Angus bulls sold for an average of $2,288/head. Five Hybrid Simmental bulls averaged $2,210/head. Four Purebred Simmental bulls sold for an average of $2,600/head. Two Hereford bulls averaged $2,325/head. Gene Steiner served as the auctioneer for the sale.
