Reflectance Sensors are used in the AEV project to track the distance and position of the AEV as it moves on the track. Preparation for Lab Two included reading the Reflectance Sensors Manual to understand how the sensors gather data. The Sensors work hand-in-hand with the wheels of the vehicle to record “marks,” which are then converted to engineering units. 8 marks is equal to 3.9 inches, or 0.4875 inches per mark.
Lab Two focused on the testing of the Reflectance Sensors to ensure they were properly taking data. By using the command testReflectanceSensors, the team was able to observe the movements of the motors and the available data to conclude that the Reflectance Sensors were working properly.
Additional details involving Lab 2 can be found in Progress Report 1.
