Performance Test 1

The code for this focused on completing the first half of the final performance test of going through the gate [2]. With this being the first performance test, the kinks of exploring accelerating and braking were investigated. The balance between accelerating, braking, and coasting was looked into and it was found that it was better to brake by braking and reversing the motors to have a more consistent stopping place then leaving it up to coasting to stop the vehicle. It was also found that it was better to have the AEV accelerate up the hill to get the vehicle moving and then change to regular speed when it’s near the top.

This code was created off the image provided by the MCR [2]. At first, using the conversions listed in the glossary, the inches were converted to marks to estimate where the vehicle would stop. After this, the future tests were trial and error to find the exact stopping place.

This test took place after the base orientation was tested, meaning that the design used for this had a horizontal base since that was the most efficient orientation.
