Afterward, executive producer Stephen Kellert of Yale will lead a discussion including Ohio Amish farmer David Kline and Oberlin College’s David Orr. It’s a distinguished panel to say the least. You can read more about them at the link. “Biophilic design,” the event’s organizers say, “is an innovative way of designing the places where we live, work, and learn.” Come check it out if you’re interested.

George Siemon, pictured, CEO and a founding farmer of Organic Valley, North America’s largest organic farming cooperative, will keynote the Feb. 16-17 annual conference of the Ohio Ecological Food and Farm Association. A record number of CFAES scientists and specialists are slated to speak during the event. Organizers call it Ohio’s largest sustainable food and farm conference.

Mark your calendar, too, if you’re interested, for a Feb. 8 workshop on adapting agriculture to extreme weather. Why try to adapt? To try to minimize the possible financial — and food-security — hits. Among the speakers will be specialists from CFAES’s outreach arm, OSU Extension.
A reminder about several dates: This Thursday, Jan. 10, is the deadline to register for the Ohio Farmland Preservation Summit, which is Jan. 17 in Columbus. This Friday, Jan. 11, is the Ohio Land Use Conference, also in Columbus (registration closed Dec. 31). And next Tuesday, Jan. 15, is the registration deadline for the high tunnel workshop in Piketon in southeast Ohio.
