Poultry Quality Assurance at Dayton Fancy Feathers Spring Poultry Show

 

SAVE THE DATE  – Ohio 4-H Poultry Quality Assurance will be presented during the Dayton Fancy Feathers’ Spring Poultry Show in Greenville, OH on April 26, 2025.

For those exhibiting in the JUNIOR Show and/or Showmanship contest, this Quality Assurance training will be a great chance to get this important training checked-off your to-do list.

 

Ohio 4-H & FFA Hockey Night

Hosted by The Ohio State University College of Food, Agriculture, and Environmental Sciences (CFAES) on Thursday, February 27 from 4:30-6:30pm in Columbus, this unique event connects 4-H and FFA Members with CFAES!

Pre-game Activities and tours include:

  • CFAES Campus Tour from student ambassadors.
  • Academic Program Fair, Majors & Careers Game: Connect with campus-based students and staff.

Backyard Poultry Online Course

 

Whether your flocks provides for your family or as a 4-H Project, this “cheep” online course is designed to provide you with the knowledge and resources necessary to take flight!

The Backyard Poultry Certification Course is self-paced and expected to take 2-3 hours. Modules include:

  • Getting Started
  • Brooding, Basic Husbandry, and Nutrition
  • Housing
  • Egg Production
  • Maximizing Health
  • Biosecurity

After completing this course, learners will be able to:

  • Identify rules and regulations relevant to raising backyard poultry
  • Source healthy birds to raise in their backyard
  • Apply concepts of basic husbandry, nutrition and housing of poultry
  • Explain how eggs are produced
  • Practice safe handling of birds and eggs
  • Recognize common health-related abnormalities
  • Describe the roles of veterinary care and biosecurity in poultry

Ohio Beef Youth Council Saturday February 1, 2025

The Ohio Cattlemen’s Association Annual Meeting and Awards Banquet is scheduled for February 1 at the Hilton Polaris in Columbus. This event will launch the new Ohio Beef Youth Council (OBYC.) The council is a youth education initiative created to serve the families and youth of Ohio’s beef industry and invest in the next generation of industry leaders. Funded by Beef Checkoff and OCA, this initiative will equip youth with the tools to become effective industry leaders and inspire them to continue their engagement in the beef industry.

Registration will open at 9am and the program begins at 10am. The council and its programs are open to all youth between the ages of 8 and 21 years old. No cost is involved to participate in the council, although educational contests and events may have registration fees.

4-H Volunteer Training February 24th

Ohio 4-H Volunteers have an outstanding reputation for their commitment to the development of our youth. To maintain this outstanding reputation, Ohio 4-H volunteers shall continue enhancing their skills to ensure all 4-H participants have a positive and educational experience by annually attending additional youth development training opportunities. 

This training is an expectation for all county 4-H programs to maintain high-quality volunteers and provide returning volunteer education. Each training lasts about two hours and includes:

  • Youth Activities & Programs Policy
  • Cloverbuds
  • County Program Updates
