There are simply not enough jobs in academia for Postdocs to enter a full-time tenure-track professor position. What many don’t realize is that there are many career opportunities in the industry. For STEM Postdocs, transitioning into the corporate world is pretty apparent, but for Postdocs in Social Science and Humanities, the path to find employment in the private sector is more obscure. This is understandable as Postdocs are commonly not promoted to take part in career workshops or internships within the industry.
The Postdoc career appears to be the most logical option available. What most Postdocs don’t realize is that a transition process from a Postdoc career to any job in the industry takes from 6-12 months, particularly if you can’t articulate the value you can offer, and if you don’t have a networking strategy. But facts are: Postdocs are attractive on the market, but they need
- a strategy
- to build a network and get support
- to understand their own value
In the seminar, a coaching concept developed for PhDs and Postdocs is presented including tools, tips & tricks together with examples of common challenges and problems connected to coaching Postdocs in career transition. Examples of successful Postdoc career transitions will be explained to show the variety and multifaceted possibilities for Postdocs outside of academia: A Postdoc can take you everywhere. The career coaching concept has been successfully used for coaching over 1000+ PhDs and Postdocs on a global level to a career outside of academia.

Bio
Tina Persson, docent is a career & leadership coach, author, and entrepreneur. She is also an invited speaker facilitating seminars and workshops to doctorates professionals and early researchers supporting them in their career development. As a businesswoman she is the founder of Passage2pro AB, Aptahem AB a biotech start-up company, featured over 20 scientific publications, inventor of two scientific patents, and the host of the PhD Career Stories podcast. After spending nearly two decades in academia, she decided to enter the staffing industry, where she gained eight years of expertise working as a recruiter and talent manager. Combining her multifaceted experience, she is adept at empowering researchers to pave their way to a smooth transition from the academic world to a fulfilling career beyond academia.
