2021 Veggie Car Derby

The 2021 Clermont County Veggie Car Derby was a huge success this year; hosted by Clermont County 4-H and Clermont County 4-H Educator, Kelly Royalty. This year’s Veggie Car Derby showed a lot of creativity in design and overall look of the veggie cars. The event hosted over 40 participants and even had a great turn out for the adult division this year. A huge thank you to the Clermont County Sheriff’s Office and Captain Moran and Chief Deputy Stratton for helping judge and run the event again this year.

4-H Cloverbud Show and Tell

On Wednesday, July 28th Clermont County 4-H and Clermont County 4-H Educator, Kelly Royalty hosted a Cloverbud Show and Tell Day for all the Clermont County Cloverbuds to participate in. Cloverbuds picked a topic or an item to show and tell about in their groups. At the closing of the Cloverbud Show and Tell program, all Cloverbuds in attendance were announced and presented with a 4-H Cloverbuds bag for completion. Thank you to all the Clermont County Fair Royalty and 4-H Volunteers that helped with our 2021 Clermont County Fair Cloverbud Day!

   

4-H STEM Day

On Tuesday, July 27th Clermont County 4-H members participated in STEM Day, during the 2021 Clermont County Fair. Participants learned how to use a Sphero robot as an engine in a carriage of their own making. Participants had to ensure that their design for their carriage/chariot was: stable, swift, and capable of steering around or overcoming obstacles without losing their passengers (2 Ping Pong balls). Participants worked in teams and had a half hour to construct their carriage/chariot. Once participants completed their designs, the competition for 1st through 3rd place was on. The results and photos of the Sphero Races for STEM Day are as follows:

1st Place – Team Balloon Animals (Leo, Vivian, Amy, and Caleb)

2nd Place – Team Dorschug (Abigail Dorschug, Olivia Dorschug, and Grant Dorschug)

3rd Place – Team X Car (Lazaro Rios, Alfonso Rios, and Trey Weber)

4-H Communications Contest

The Clermont County 4-H Communications contest was held on Monday, July 26th; during the 2021 Clermont County Fair. Several individuals and teams competed in the competition. Demonstrations covered various different topics from pigeons to paper airplanes. The following projects are State Fair Delegates from Clermont County:

1st Place Intermediate Individual (11-13) – Zak Hinton from Empower Youth 4-H Club, Project: How to Stay Safe While Welding

2nd Place Intermediate Individual (11-13) – Ethan Roosa from Buzzing Enthusiasts 4-H Club, Project: Fishing

Clermont County Fair General Project Judging

Last Wednesday and Thursday Clermont County 4-H completed their General Project judging. Our judges saw 235 projects from our 4-H members. Projects this year were very creative and presented in unique ways. This year we were also able to offer a virtual judging option for those that could not compete in person. We were very lucky to have 24 fantastic judges and many volunteers to help us complete judging for this year. Be on the lookout for these amazing projects displayed at our 2021 Clermont County Fair. Thank you to all of our judges and volunteers for making judging this year possible. Congratulations to all the Clermont County 4-H members who have completed 2021 4-H project judging.

                          

Small Animal and Companion Animal Project Judging Registration

Small Animal and Companion Animal Judging registration is now available!

Small Animal and Companion Animal Project Judging consists of a one-on-one interview with a project judge.  Members will have 15 minutes to share their 4-H project with a judge, answer a few questions and receive feedback regarding his/her project.  Those who participate in Small Animal and Companion Animal Project judging have an opportunity to receive awards for placing 1st – 5th and be selected to represent Clermont County at the Ohio State Fair.

The registration link is for projects being judged on Tuesday, July 27th during the fair. You will need to fill out the survey separately for each project you are bringing to project judging.  Do not select the same time for more than one project and be sure to give yourself 15 minutes between interviews.

Helpful tips and Project Completion Requirements

Members who want to receive credit for completing their project but do not want to participate in project judging, can review their project with their club advisor.  Projects must be reviewed by September 30, and will count for completion only.  Projects will not be eligible for county or state awards.  As as reminder, completing one project is a requirement for being a member in good standing.  Advisors can use the sheet below to assist with the project review.

2021 4-H Cultural Immersion Project in Puerto Rico

There will be a third youth 4-H Cultural Immersion Project experience to Puerto Rico from November 23 – December 1, 2021.

Below is a preliminary application for the Project. There will be a follow up applicant zoom interview before selecting participants. The experience is for 4-H youth ages 15-19.  The cost is $500 plus airfare (approx.. $600).  Participants will be staying in two locations – Castaner  and a small mountain town in the center of the island and San Juan.

One of the goals for this project is to join 4-H youth from Puerto Rico for several service projects and local events.  Please contact Steve Brady – Warren County 4-H Youth Development Educator for more information: brady.111@osu.edu

Ohio 4-H Seeking to Fill Young Alumni Positions

The Ohio 4-H Foundation Board has recently voted to add 3 young alumni positions to the Foundation Board beginning January 1, 2022.  Attached is the application for alumni to apply that is due by August 1, 2021.

The positions they are looking to fill are for 4-H alumni ages 21-30.  The board will be looking for diversity in all aspects for the 3 candidates they choose.  It will be important that these members have time to devote to a new alumni pen pal program, and can advocate from the young alumni perspective to the board.
