Assuring Quality Care for Animals and Horse Safety and Ethics Training

FFA and 4-H members who are planning to exhibit a food quality animal for the 2019 Clermont County Fair must participate in Assuring Quality Care for Animals (a.k.a. QA Training).

FFA and 4-H members who are planning to exhibit an equine project for the first time (regardless of your age) must participate in Horse Safety and Ethics.

The following animals MUST attend AQCA training each year, unless they have completed and passed the test out option:

  • market steers/heifers
  • feeder calves
  • lactating dairy goats
  • lactating dairy cattle
  • market lambs
  • market hogs
  • market goats
  • market poultry
  • meat rabbits

FFA members may meet the qualification through their Agriculture Education coursework. FFA Advisers must turn in a list of those who completed by June 1st to OSU Extension – Clermont County. This includes neighboring county Ag Ed/FFA programs too.

Exhibitors who attend a training in another county are responsible for submitting their paperwork to OSU Extension – Clermont County by June 1st.

All exhibitors needing AQCA training must have it completed by June 1st of the current year to be eligible to show and sell at the county and state fair.

Exhibitors may meet the requirements through face to face training or by passing a test with a 70% or higher.

Youth who are between the ages of 12 and 18 as of January 1, 2019 are eligible to take a test developed for their age level.  4-H or FFA members who pass the test will be exempt from the quality assurance requirement until they move to the next age bracket, or are no longer a Junior Fair market livestock exhibitor.  There are two age groups: 12-14 and 15-18. Contact the office to arrange a test-out time.
