No more FREE plastic scrapie identification tags. Read here for more details.
It is extremely difficult to track where sheep and goats are being purchased/sold, so Clermont County and several other Ohio county fairs require all sheep and goats to be scrapie identified for the purpose of exhibition (market and breeding). Please know the rules and regulations before purchasing a sheep or goat for your county fair exhibition.
As a producer, you should know this rule and have premise identification and tags present to scrapie identify animals sold before they leave your premise. It is better to tag than not to tag.
As a purchaser, you should be aware of this rule too so that you are making sure your animal is properly scrapie identified before it leaves the producers premise. It is the producers responsibility to scrapie identify the animal.
If an animal shows up for registration on tag-in day and does not have scrapie identification they will not be allowed to register unless the animal is scrapie identified before the conclusion of tag-in. There are many forms of scrapie identification and tags are just one. If your sheep or goat is a purebred animal and registered with the purebred association, then their registration paperwork and tattoo must match. Registration paperwork must always follow the animal for proof and be able to be presented, including to the show.
Please be aware of the above change for scrapie identification tags and pre-plan for future purchases or change to the free metal tags.
