New Faculty Information System Coming April 2017

As you may be aware, we were informed last year by Thomson Reuters that our Faculty Information System, Research in View (RiV), is being retired. Over the course of the last year, the Office of Distance Education and eLearning (ODEE) along with a committee of 27 faculty and staff members evaluated tools to replace RiV. This committee evaluated all options in the marketplace and chose Vita, a new tool powered by Symplectic Elements, as the best fit for The Ohio State University.

ODEE is now in the process of migrating our Faculty Information System from Research in View to Vita. The new Vita tool will be available starting in April 2017, and the timeline for this project will impact faculty members completing the promotion and tenure process beginning with the 2017-2018 academic year reviews.

For 2017 and 2018 tenure candidates

Candidates for tenure in 2017 and 2018, please note:

  • Those completing the P&T process during the 2016-2017 academic year: Continue to use the current tool, Research in View.
  • Faculty members going through the P&T process during the 2017-2018 academic year: You will be the first to complete this process in Vita. You will be receiving extra support from ODEE closer to April. Contact your promotion and tenure coordinator for guidance if you’d like to start the P&T process sooner.

ODEE will be reaching out directly to faculty members in these two groups to arrange training and support.

For all faculty members

All profiles and data in Research in View will be automatically moved over to Vita, so there is no need to re-enter scholarly activities you have already recorded. However, as with every migration of this sort, you should review your content next year to ensure everything transferred correctly. Ample support will be provided by ODEE to make this transition as smooth as possible.

I am excited for this change to Vita, as the new tool will bring an improved interface, more diverse measures of impact and an easier way to make connections between faculty members at The Ohio State University.
For more information, please contact your promotion and tenure coordinator.

Sincerely,
Kay N. Wolf, PhD, RDN, LD, FAND
Vice Provost for Academic Policy and Faculty Resources
