Clermont County takes on National Shooting Sports Championships

This past week, two Clermont County Shooting Sports members, Ellie Evans and Sam Queen, competed in the 4-H National Shooting Sports Championships in Nebraska.

Air Pistole

Sam Queen, Clermont County Shooting Sports President, competed on the Air Pistol Team. Originally slated as alternate for the Air Rifle team, he stepped up to fill a spot on the Air Pistole team just four weeks before the competition!

Sam’s Placings & Honors:

  • Day 1, Rapid Fire: Team Score of 903, breaking Team Ohio’s record of 752
  • Day 2, Silhouette: 21/40, meeting personal goal of 50%
  • Day 3, Slow Fire Precision: 336/400, Team High & New Team Ohio Record
  • Overall rank: 27th out of 73 competitors

Sam said training from his 4-H Air Rifile Coaches, Barry and Bruce is one of the things that helped make the quick transition to Air Pistole easier.

Recurve Archery

Ellie Evans, Clermont County Shooting Sports Vice President, competed in the Recurve portion of the competition. Originally training in Compound Archery, Ellie earned a spot on the 4-H Nationals Recurve Team.

Ellie’s Placings & Honors:

  • Day 1, Field: 22nd out of 57
  • Day 2, FITA: 27th out of 57
  • Day 3, 3D: 24th out of 57
  • Field & FITA Team broke previous Ohio 4-H Recurve Archery Team Score
  • Overall rank: 30th out of 57

Ellie worked hard training with coaches Jim and Liz Coombe to learn Recurve for 8 months to prepare for Shooting Sports Nationals.

Sam and Ellie did more than just compete in Nebraska. Tom and Kim Baker organized team and family meals every day. The team went to a teen social, a waterpark, and traded pins with other state competitors. They met other 4-H’ers from across the state and country, and no doubt made many lasting memories!

Congrats to Sam and Ellie for being the first to represent Clermont County at the National Shooting Sports Championship! We are proud to have them represent! 👏

Do you have a 4-H’er competing in State or National event with their project? We’d love to feature them on our blog/Facebook!
