Thursday, March 31st from 5-8pm,
All are welcome – please spread the word! Come see the workspaces, artwork, and research of current art students across disciplines including art & tech, ceramics, sculpture, printmaking, photography, painting & drawing, glass, and video. Both Sherman Studios and Hopkins Hall on The Ohio State University main campus in Columbus, Ohio will be open. A shuttle will be available to transport attendees between studio buildings for the duration of the event. Maps and light refreshments provided.
Parking for visitors outside of OSU:

- Park at Ohio Union Garage: first 20 visitors receive a parking sticker from “Hopkins Welcome Table” to exit garage for free
- Park on West Campus, Carmack Lot: first 20 visitors receive a hang tag from “Sherman Welcome Table” to park for free

Jacklyn Brickman presents “Spellbreaker”
Jacklyn Brickman, MFA student in Art & Technology, was awarded a Tech Hub grant to produce an art installation that connects the human body to black walnut trees. She discusses her finished work Spellbreaker and her thoughts on the role that technology can play in helping us understand living systems.
Rose Stark, at Urban Arts Space
Rose Stark, MFA student graduating Spring 2019 presents her installation work and describes how her experiences as an animator influenced the way she approached building these sculptures for her exhibition, Transluminal.

MFA students in Art develop their practices within and beyond the context of seven studio areas: art and technology, ceramics, glass, painting and drawing, photography, printmaking, and sculpture. Students in the Art & Technology area take courses with 3 full-time faculty in Art & Technology, plus 20 more faculty across the Department of Art, including Ann Hamilton, recipient of the National Medal of Arts. Students benefit from affiliated faculty in Film Studies, Physics, the Advanced Computing Center for Arts and Design (ACCAD), Architecture, Molecular Genetics and the Nanotech West Lab. Interdisciplinary and cross-disciplinary experimentation that forges connections to other departments is encouraged.
The curriculum balances intensive studio-based coursework with university electives. Our 3-year collaborative MFA program offers its students an opportunity to extend and deepen their studio practices within the expanded context of a research university. The vast majority of our students are fully funded by Graduate Associateships (GAs) for all 3 years of study.
Each graduate student is provided with a private, or semi-private studio, as well as access to facilities dedicated to the production of interactive and robotic art, game art, large-format imaging, moving image art, and collaborative spaces for the development of new forms.

Maker Faire Ottawa
Art and Tech students and faculty and alumni presented work at Maker Faire in Ottawa Canada in a special art exhibition titled Preternatural, co-curated by Ohio State University Professor Ken Rinaldo and Maker Faire curator Remco Volmer. They invited artists whose works address the perspectives of animals, media and technological representations, ecosystems, futures, coevolution, symbiosis and friction between human and non-humans. These included 3D rapid prototyped sculptures, 3D animations, robotic artworks, performance and moving image art installations.
Invited artists: Madeleine Rico, Jeremy Viny, Trademark Gunderson, Jordan Reynolds, Ethan Schaefer, Catherine Lee, Danner Seyffer-Sprague, Danielle Popp, Yoni Mizrachi, Sarah Goetz, Amy Youngs, Grant Parish, Casey Hamilton, Daniel Popp, Christine Rucker, Katherine Beigel, Drew Grigsby, Christina Howard, Kyler Holland, Maggie Barrie, Riley Patrick, Makayla Combs, Nick Cunningham, Hui Yang, Jayne Kennedy, Brandon Messner, Jacob Markusic, Brandon Ball, Michael Anderson, Leah Lafarciola, Gaopeng Chen, Jay Young and Ken Rinaldo.

BioPresence Exhibition Fall 2015
This themed, new media art exhibition will include animations, robotic art, internet art, tactical media, sound artworks, maps, digital art, installation, video and algorithmic approaches to sensing and representing non-human beings. It will be held at the Ohio State University main campus and the Mote Galleries on High Street, in Columbus, Ohio.
The exhibition will begin at the Mote Galleries on November 16, 2015 with selected, invited artists. From December 9th through the 16th, BioPresence will expand into a large-scale exhibition in the Hopkins Hall Gallery and throughout the building. It will include a listening room for audio artworks selected for the juried show: BioPresence – Bioacoustic Urbanscapes. Opening celebration 5pm – 8pm, Wednesday December 9th in the lobby of Hopkins Hall.
Participating artists include: Jessica Ann, Katherine Bennett, Allison Semele Blair, Matt Lewis, William Randall, Ken Rinaldo, Trademark, Doo-Sung Yoo, Amy Youngs and many more.
Students, staff and faculty are invited to submit artwork to this new media art exhibition that reveals and considers the presence of biological beings in the unique urban habitat of the Ohio State University. Apply to the Audio Art portion of the show here by December 3. Jurying of the new media art show will take place in Hopkins Hall on December 8th, 2015.

Map Detailing Locations of the Works
MFA Student Project Selected for Development by Medialab-Prado in Madrid
Art & Technology Graduate student Jessica Ann is currently in Madrid, Spain pursuing a project titled Biofeedback Cinema at Medialab Prado Comunidad. Jessica’s Biofeedback Cinema is an expanded-cinema-experiment (ECE) that connects an actor’s brain to a camera via an open source brain-computer-interface (BCI). The system proposed operates in lieu of a traditional cinematographer. In this case, the actor’s brainwaves are dictating the final composition (camera focus, aperture, position, etc).
Jessica began development of her project in the New Media Robotics course taught by Professor Ken Rinaldo and is now collaborating with a team in Madrid that includes a programmer, a choreographer, and a video producer. You can learn more about the project and follow their daily progress here.

The Instant Now | OSU Department of Art Graduate Student Exhibition
Art & Tech graduate students Bill Randall and Jessica Ann organized an exhibition of the second-year students pursuing an MFA in the Department of Art. This exhibition included a bus tour, since the locations were spread throughout the university campus and the city of Columbus.
