Presentation Title: Two-Part Growth Modeling
In many fields such as substance use, child problem behaviors, criminology, and health economics, the variables that we are interested in investigating may include a large proportion of zeros, resulting in highly skewed data. Two-part growth modeling allows us to analyze the data as two processes, not only effectively dealing with the skewness of the data, but also estimating the prevalence and frequency of the dependent variable across time simultaneously. The goal of this presentation is to introduce two-part growth modeling, give some example from existing research, and demonstrate the modeling in Mplus.
About Dr. Zhang
Jing Zhang is a postdoctoral researcher of Human Development and Family Science in the Department of Human Sciences at The Ohio State University. She received her doctorate in Human Development and Family Studies from Virginia Tech. Her research focuses on mechanisms linking contextual risks and behavioral and health outcomes of marginalized youth and families, and the related preventive interventions. She has expertise in modeling longitudinal intervention data.
