Lyft Ride Smart at Ohio State®

Lyft Ride Smart at Ohio State offers eligible students discounted rides from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. inside the university-designated service area.

Ohio State will contribute $4, per ride, and the remainder will be paid by the rider. Prices may be impacted by distance, traffic, time of day, special events and prime time surcharges.

If you did not complete the opt-in process last semester, you will receive another invitation email from Lyft within 24 hours. Please follow the prompt in that email to officially enroll in the program and claim your ride benefits.

Users must select “Lyft” as their ride option in personal mode to qualify for the university discount.

Another option available for those traveling on campus only is CABS On-Demand. The CABS On-Demand program offers free rides after 9 p.m. for trips starting, and ending, on campus. Daytime transportation is also available between areas west of Olentangy River and select campus bus stops: RPAC, Stillman Hall, Doan Hall, University Square and Gateway. Students, faculty and staff can download the “TripShot” app for scheduling and real-time tracking.

Safety
Safety is Ohio State’s top priority. All users should adhere to the following safety tips:

Follow the Lyft vehicle on GPS via the app.
Visually confirm vehicle info/descriptions matches information in the Lyft app (license plate, model, etc.).
Match the color. Most Lyft drivers have a dashboard display that acts as a beacon, changing color to match the rider’s app and help identify their Lyft more easily.
Ask the driver to say who they are picking up.
If you feel unsafe, leave the area and contact law enforcement.
Lyft offers additional safety information online.
