Course description: Management of public sector organizations with focus on internal operations, processes, and resources; human resource management, information technology; other aspects of internal capacity.
This class looked at theories of management and leadership. We spent the first half of the course on historical theories of management, and the second half on the Competing Values Framework as discussed by Quinn et al in Becoming a Master Manager (Wiley). For the 6060 Final Paper (pdf), we had to grade the performance of Gen. Frank Savage in the film Twelve O’Clock High based on the core competencies of the Competing Values Framework. Although this movie is from 1949, it is still shown as an example of leadership in all the military academies.
