In PUBAFF 6050, Managing Public Sector Organizations, students learn to manage public sector organizations with a focus on the external environment: context of public sector organizations, their structure, how they operate; managing organizational performance, innovation, and change.
Most of the course centers on a series of case studies about organizations during crises such as Hurricane Katrina, the BP oil spill, or the Space Shuttle Challenger explosion. We also choose an organization to analyze in depth regarding stakeholders, strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats. I chose Ohio Sierra Club, which is appropriate considering how much volunteer work I do for them. My analysis is below.
I was able to present this analysis to a meeting of the Ohio Chapter Executive Committee in March. This resulted in the appointment of a Strategic Planning Committee, which will be at work through 2018.
