The third in a series of three Soil Balancing Call-In Conversations, organized by CFAES’s Soil Balancing Team, is set for Wednesday, Dec. 12, from 1:30-3 p.m. The theme is “The Questions Matter.” It’s free to join in. Details.
What is soil balancing?
Soil balancing is a soil management approach based on base cation saturation ratios, says a website by CFAES’s Vegetable Production Systems Laboratory.
“Proponents of soil balancing describe it as a holistic approach to enhancing soil health, crop yield and quality, and weed control — one or more of which can also enhance farm income,” the website says. “These benefits, however, have not been demonstrated experimentally nor have the possible drawbacks of soil balancing been examined and discussed widely.”
The call-in series is part of the team’s efforts to answer those unanswered questions.
