FINAL Quality Assurance Options

In-Person, May 3

We will host an in-person Quality Assurance session on Monday, May 3, 6-8 p.m. at the Veteran’s Building at the Fairgrounds. Space is limited by OSU/local health department guidelines and pre-registration is REQUIRED. Please be sure you can attend before registering so you don’t take a spot from another youth. Youth cannot attend by just showing up on May 3. Youth should plan to arrive early, as youth will not receive credit for attending if they arrive more than 10 minutes after the program starts.

COVID-19 Guidelines:

  • Properly worn face masks are required.
  • Physical distancing will be practiced by maintaining a six-foot distance between people. Chairs will be set up to facilitate this.
  • Members cannot attend the meeting if they or anyone living their household is experiencing any of the following symptoms: fever, cough, or shortness of breath.

YQCA Online

Youth who do not attend a Zoom or In-Person option will need to complete the YQCA course online by June 15 to be eligible to exhibit at the Muskingum County Fair.

The online module completed must be for the correct 4-H age.

Only the YQCA courses currently meet ODA standards. BQA, PQA, BEST and other online programs do not meet this requirement.

Families use their 4HOnline log in to complete the course. The cost is $12 per youth.

Junior Camp Update – Camp Registration Information

We will operate under a revised schedule that we are still working on, but I can provide time frames for initial planning purposes:

  • Wednesday, June 9 – Counselors and Staff Only
  • Thursday, June 10 in the morning – Staggered camper drop-off at scheduled times selected during registration
  • Saturday, June 12 in the evening after dinner – Staggered camper pick-up at scheduled times selected during registration

The camp registration process will be online this year!

  • 2021 Junior Camp is limited to 4-H members only.
  • Campership applicants are being notified on Friday, April 30 via e-mail. Receiving a scholarship DOES NOT guarantee a child a spot. They must pre-register for a spot.
  • A first-come, first-serve pre-registration will take place May 3-7 online. Pre-registration opens May 3 at 8 a.m. Deadline to pre-register is May 7 at 11:59 p.m. Once spots are filled, a wait list will be implemented. Please review How Camp Will Be Different in 2021 and the Ohio 4-H Camp COVID-19 Acknowledgement Form before pre-registering your child for camp. Pre-register here: go.osu.edu/campprereg. If you visit the link before May 3 at 8 a.m., you will see this message “Sorry, this has not started.”
  • Pre-registered campers will receive full registration details the week of May 10. The deadline for registration/payment completion is May 20. Accepted payment methods will be via credit card or check payable to OSU Extension. If not received by May 20, we will move on to any wait listed campers.

Junior Fair Entries Now Open! First Deadline is June 15

The Junior Fair is introducing a new online entry system in 2021 called Fair Entry! Fair Entry is a cloud-based fair management system that helps run the entire fair process – entries, shows and sales. It is offered by the same company that has 4-H Online, our enrollment system. Families enrolled in 4-H will be able to use their 4-H Online log in information to also log in to Fair Entry.

The Muskingum County Junior Fair Entry System, as well as posting of Show Bills, Event Results and Sale Bills is made possible through generous sponsorship from:

IMPORTANT NOTES

  • Carefully review information below related to deadlines and animal registration events, as some dates and procedures have changed.
  • More information, including Livestock Entry Instructions can be found on our website: muskingum.osu.edu/juniorfair under “Livestock Entry Information.” PLEASE REVIEW THESE INSTRUCTIONS BEFORE COMPLETING ENTRIES.
  • All 4-H and FFA youth must complete livestock entries in order to be eligible to exhibit at the Muskingum County Fair.
  • No paper entry forms will be accepted.
  • Livestock entries must be submitted online in Fair Entry (muskingum.fairentry.com) by established deadlines, NO EXCEPTIONS. You can use a computer or mobile device.

Deadlines

  • All animal entries are due online by June 15 at 11:59 p.m., EXCEPT market rabbits and feeder calves, which are due July 20 at 11:59 p.m. All animals must be entered, including back-up animals. Horse lease agreements must be uploaded by June 15.
  • 5-way vaccination is required for all horses age yearling and older. Exhibitor must submit documentation of vaccination by August 1 at 11:59 p.m. Vaccination records can be uploaded anytime before the deadline.
  • Showmanship entries are due online by Sunday night of the fair, August 15 at 11:59 p.m., for the following species: beef, dairy, goat, poultry, rabbit, sheep, and swine. Showmanship entries can be   completed anytime before the deadline. There will NOT be paper showmanship sign-ups at the fair. Note: This is a change for Dairy and Swine, which were “opt out” on previous entry forms.

Notes about Animal Registration Events

  • Market Goats – ALL market goats must be weighed in and tagged at June 7 Market Goat Registration. After registration, exhibitors will be responsible for completing the online entry process using the Fair Ear Tag # by June 15.
  • Market Lambs – ALL market lambs must be weighed in and tagged at June 7 Market Lamb Registration. After registration, exhibitors will be responsible for completing the online entry process using the Fair Ear Tag # by June 15.
  • Breeding Rabbits – Rabbits should be tattooed at June 7 Breeding Rabbit Registration if they do not already have a tattoo. After registration, exhibitors will be responsible for completing the online entry  process using the appropriate tattoos by June 15.
  • Market Rabbits – ALL market rabbits must be weighed in and tagged at July 15 Market Rabbit Registration. After registration, exhibitors will be responsible for completing the online entry process    using the appropriate tattoos by July 20.

The 2021 Junior Fair Booth & Parade Entry Form is now available on our website: muskingum.osu.edu/juniorfair under “Junior Fair Activities”.

This year, organizations can submit entries for both activities on the same entry form.

2021 4-H Speaking Contests Pulse Survey

The Speaking Contests (Health & Safety and Demonstrations & Illustrated Talks) are currently scheduled for June 23 at the Veteran’s Building at the Muskingum County Fairgrounds.
In order to determine how to move forward with planning based on current COVID-19 guidelines, we are asking families who might participate in the contest to give us feedback on the potential format. We do not know the status of Area and State contests at this time.

SPEAKING CONTESTS – Each youth receives a $10 Walmart gift card, sponsored by the 4-H Committee for participating in a contest. Deadline to register and contest takes place in June. Details posted when available: muskingum.osu.edu/judging.

  • Health & Safety Contest – Youth can select a topic of human health or safety that affects family living, whether it is in the home, on the farm, on the highway, or in public places. Divisions are: Junior (ages 8-13, Senior (ages 14-18), and Team/Skit. Youth may be selected as a County Winner and have the opportunity to compete at the Area Contest.
  • Demonstrations & Illustrated Talks Contest – Youth can do a demonstration/illustrated talk on a topic of their choice. Divisions are Junior Individual/Team (ages 8-10), Intermediate Individual/Team (ages 11-3), Senior Individual (ages 14-18). Junior Divisions are without the use of computer technology, Intermediate and Senior Divisions can be with/or without technology. Youth may be selected for the Ohio State Fair.

Early Still Project Judging Registration Now Available!

4-H projects must be judged at the county level to be completed. There are no advisor grade options for project completion.

Youth must attend one of three judging opportunities to have still projects judged. Youth must attend Still Project Judging on July 7 to be eligible for county awards or Ohio State Fair selection.

4-H Cloverbud Day Camp Update

As we just received word related to hosting camps in the last few days, many of our camp-related timelines will change in May and June. We appreciate your continued patience as we try to roll out a variety of experiences for our youth on shortened timelines.

Cloverbud Day Camp is scheduled for June 25 at Windy Ridge Jerseys in Norwich, OH.

4-H Junior Camp Update

Earlier this week, OSU Extension and 4-H Camp Ohio approved holding overnight camps with restrictions in 2021. As a result, our counselors and staff are planning for a modified in-person overnight camp. Please be patient as we continue to work out details – guidelines and information continue to evolve.

Registration for campers is not yet available. Additional information will be released in a Family Update E-mail on April 30. Notes about the registration process:

Final Quality Assurance Program Options

Livestock Quality Assurance (QA) Certification is required for all youth exhibiting a market animal, dairy cow or dairy goat project at the Muskingum County Fair.

All Muskingum County Youth must have the QA Certification by June 15. Youth planning to exhibit at the Ohio State Fair must complete certification 45 days before the start of State Fair.

Zoom Programs, April 29

There are two remaining Zoom Quality Assurance sessions on April 29, 6 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.

Registration limits have been removed so that as many families as possible can attend. It will be important for families to log in early so that we have time for taking attendance.
