Volunteer Experience – Vocalize Columbus (4/10/2024)

Are you interested in a flexible, patient-focused way to use your language skills and gain clinical experience?

I’m reaching out on behalf of Vocalize Columbus, a student-led non-profit that trains medical interpreters to volunteer at charitable clinics! Vocalize interprets over video calls, giving our interpreters the flexibility to interpret whenever and wherever they would like!

Medical interpreting is an increasingly in-demand skill in the health profession, with over twenty-five million limited English proficiency Americans who disproportionately have less access to healthcare and rely on free clinics.

Vocalize Columbus is offering a free reimbursement virtual workshop this May for students to learn this skill. Vocalize interpreters will pay $190 in course fees, which will be reimbursed fully once interpreters complete 25 volunteer hours with Vocalize. This training and accreditation normally costs around $750!

If you would like more information on the specific dates, times, and expectations for the upcoming May workshop visit this signup link!
https://forms.gle/BEYMEMv4VjTimShx9

Please do not wait to sign up, as the training session can fill up!

Alternatively, if you would like to explore a scholarship for a 40hour asynchronous training accreditation look over and/or submit an application at the link below! Please note that the scholarship is much more competitive to receive funding compared to our May course!

Join the Perfect Pair at Ohio State University – Applications are Now Open! – (posted 01/08/2024)

Pre-health? Looking for meaningful, personal volunteering? Looking for a leadership opportunity on campus?

Perfect Pair (perfectpair.org) is a new student organization on campus that connects seniors in living communities with college students. This is not a cookie-cutter volunteer program (not the normal group Bingo or Ice Cream Social). We match volunteers and seniors based on mutual interests, hobbies, and backgrounds, making each connection individualized to fit the pair. This means you will be making a direct impact on a senior who shares something in common with you, and who may not have visitors or other forms of interaction otherwise.

We are looking for people to be on the executive board to help facilitate these volunteering opportunities for college students and seniors in your community!

Please fill out this form if interested!

https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSc3Ew98ZqqT2NqkjvyyRIGP-Px5Rg-ENLk-QfR4gQ-qBN0zbQ/viewform?usp=sf_link

If you are interested in becoming a volunteer, please select “yes” on the last question of the form and you will get more information in upcoming emails!

Please email osu@perfectpair.org if you have any questions
