PROGRAM OVERVIEW

The Health Sciences (HS) program is a foundational undergraduate degree that introduces students to health care and provides in-depth science learning. Graduates work in health care positions or pursue advanced graduate programs. At Ohio State, graduate school options and graduate professional studies are available in medicine, dentistry, occupational therapy, physical therapy, dietetics and nutrition, athletic training, and more.

APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS

GPA of 2.50 or higher

A minimum 2.50 cumulative GPA is required in all coursework taken at any accredited institution.

Prerequisite Courses

Before starting the professional program, all prerequisite courses or equivalents must be completed with a C- or higher. Course selection should be based on the student’s post-graduation plans. Ohio State course numbers are shown below.

APPLICATION

The Health Sciences application is available online and must be completed and submitted with all required supplemental documents, if applicable. The Graduate and Professional Admissions Application Guide provides step-by-step instructions on how to start the online application. 

Deadline

The Health Sciences program admits students each semester. Only the autumn semester has a priority deadline; the spring and summer semesters offer only a final deadline. Students are strongly encouraged to apply by the autumn priority deadline to register for courses promptly.

DEGREE REQUIREMENTS

The minimum credit hours to graduate from The Ohio State University with a Bachelor of Science in Health and Rehabilitation Sciences are 120. The HS program requires 120 credit hours, not including HTHRHSC 1100, to graduate from the program. English 1109; Education Teaching and Learning (EDUTL) 1001, 1002, 1003, 1004, 1005, 1006, 1007, 1010, and Mathematics 1040, 1050, 1073, 1074, 1075 do not count toward the 120-credit minimum requirement for the degree. Other graduation requirements include a minimum of thirty semester hours of credit earned through regular course enrollment at Ohio State, regular course enrollment in the last semester in the School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences (HRS), a cumulative Ohio State GPA of at least 2.0 on all coursework complete at Ohio State as well as at least a 2.0 GPA in the major and an application for degree must be submitted online at least one semester before the intended graduation term.

The graduation application and instructions are on the HRS Academic Support Services Site. Students should reference their degree audit to understand the course and credit requirements and ensure they complete all required degree components, including general education, program prerequisites and corequisites, 12 core major courses, 12 credit hours of major elective courses. The minor/certificate requirement is waived for any student with an earned associate degree. The student is responsible for meeting with an HRS advisor to review all degree requirements, transfer credits, and course plans.

The suggested plan demonstrates how students may complete the HS program in eight semesters as a freshman, which may vary for each student. Students may complete the coursework part-time. Students may choose to take courses over summer terms; however, course offerings by semester are subject to change. Please be advised that only the professional curriculum is available online. Program prerequisites, corequisites, minors, and general education courses are not guaranteed to be available online at The Ohio State University. As a result, alternate course planning may be required. It is the student’s responsibility to meet with an HRS advisor to verify all requirements for the program.

Completing the Health Sciences professional course work without admission into the Health Science program does not guarantee admission into the program or graduation with a degree. Students who intend to transfer credit to Ohio State may view how credit is accepted on Transferology.com.

International applicants: countries may or may not regulate distance education provided to students in their jurisdiction and may or may not require foreign higher education institutions to comply with distance education regulations.
