Impact of exogenous ketones on indices of keto-adaptation in obese subjects on weight reducing diets
The primary objective is to determine the effect of specific exogenous ketone supplement products incorporated into a ketogenic diet on indices of keto-adaptation in obese subjects consuming a hypocaloric ketogenic diet. Key outcome variables will include: 1) magnitude of ketosis, 2) weight and fat loss trajectories, 3) visceral adipose tissue, 4) ectopic fat accumulation in liver and skeletal muscle, 5) resting energy expenditure and substrate oxidation, 6) serum cardio-metabolic risk factors, and 7) subjective measures of satiety. A secondary purpose is to determine the time-course of keto-adaptation with and without ketone supplement products.
