Fulbright Foreign Language Teaching Assistantship

Francis Troyan, Ivan Stefano, and Peter Sayer (Teaching and Learning) received an award from the Institute for International Education (IIE) to host a Fulbright Foreign Language Teaching Assistant (FLTA) Orientation at Ohio State, July 30-August 3. Forty-five language teachers from around the world came to Ohio State to learn about world language teaching methods in U.S colleges and universities, life and culture in the U.S., implicit bias in the classroom, and Title IX. Maura Eze (Department of Teaching and Learning), Preshuslee Thompson (Kirwin Institute for the Study of Race and Ethnicity), and Leigha Grosh (Title IX Office) collaborated with us to present the orientation content.

Doctoral students from the Department of Teaching and Learning and the Department of Slavic and East European Languages and Cultures supported the FLTAs in microteaching to prepare them for their work in modern language programs in universities around the United States. We are grateful to our colleagues at the Institute for International Education (IIE) and the US Department of State for giving us the opportunity to host this FLTA Orientation.
