Tableau, one type of visualization software, can be used as a tool for teaching informatics and how to convey meaning behind data. It can also be used to share research and quality improvement project results. Dr. Lyn Hardy presented an overview of data visualization use in research presentations and funding proposals at the CON on June 18, 2019. She also described how Tableau is being used to educate OSU doctoral students in data use for patient care and leadership. Lyn concluded the session with a brief overview of Tableau and how it is used within the context of a pain data set. View a recording of Lyn’s workshop, and contact her if you would like to know more about data visualization with Tableau. Her workshop slides are also available.
Pearls of wisdom from the STTI 43rd Biennial Convention
Promoting nursing research and funding new nursing researchers through grants is an important mission for STTI. Are you interested in studying how your instructional innovations are impacting your students? Consider these grants from this prominent honor society in nursing:
- STTI/National League for Nursing Grant (focused on nursing education facilitated by technology)
- Evidence-based Practice Implementation Grant (for clinical nurses aiming to implement EBP)
- Small Grants (up to $5,000)
STTI offers many other grant opportunities. If you would like to explore them, review their grants web page for details. Application deadlines occur throughout the year, and requirements vary. I would be happy to explore the funding opportunities with you to find out which one is a good fit for the project you have in mind.
