MADISON COUNTY FAIR UPDATES

MADISON COUNTY FAIR ENTRIES LIVE – DUE JUNE 1

Enter all projects in FairEntry by June 1st, 2020 at 11:59pm at the link below to be eligible to participate in the Madison County Fair:

All entries will be made online at the link above, including all non-livestock projects. See the link below for a step-by-step help sheet.

*Note: 4-H families will use their 4-H Online log in information to register. If you forgot your password, click the “forgot password” link to reset. Any members that are ONLY in FFA can select the option to create a FairEntry account.

*All tag information and photos of sheep, goats, and swine will be due via Fair Entry by June 1 online. Follow instructions in fair entry to make submissions.

*Please be prepared to submit a high resolution photo of exhibitors standing next to their market animal into FairEntry. More information and instructions are listed in the help sheet.

RACTOPAMINE GUIDELINES FOR 2020 MADISON COUNTY JR. FAIR SWINE SHOW

Swine Exhibitors: Please review the following letter from the Senior Fair Board regarding the use of Ractopamine at the 2020 Madison County Fair: Ractopamine Guidelines

FAIR ROYALTY & SPECIES AMBASSADOR APPLICATIONS – Due June 15

All of the fair royalty and specie ambassador applications are now available at madison.osu.edu/fairroyalty

*Updated information for 2020:

  • Applications should be emailed directly to madisoncountyjfb@gmail.com by June 15th, or mailed to the OSU Extension Office (must be received by June 15).
  • Photos should be submitted electronically with the application materials.
  • The advisor recommendation forms will also be electronically submitted to the above email address.
  • A hard copy photo will be required to be brought in during the interviews on July 7.
  • There is no meeting on June 15th for royalty and ambassador applicants.

OTHER FAIR RELATED APPLICATIONS

There are several species that have individual awards for outstanding exhibitor, scholarships available, etc. Please review the application for your respective species. All applications are due June 15 by email to duffey.2@osu.edu. Applications can be found below or at go.osu.edu/fairopportunities

COUNTY 4-H UPDATES

*All 4-H activities, club meetings, events and programs must be held virtually or cancelled until July 6.

4-H T-SHIRT DESIGN CONTEST

The Madison County 4-H Committee has decided to hold a 2020 Madison County 4-H T-Shirt Design contest! Go to go.osu.edu/madco4hshirt to review the rules and submit your design by June 1st! The winning design will be made into a shirt available later this year. The winning designer will receive a free t-shirt!

 

 

 

 


LIVESTOCK PROJECTS:

This year, if you have not already purchased your Livestock Project/Record Book for your species, you may download and print this free Livestock Record PDF document (1 per project). This will count for your record book for 2020 for skillathon and fair requirements and project completion. FFA members can choose to use this book or their SAE record report on AET as in the past. Note: Alpacas, Equine, and Dog projects should still use their respective project books.

LIVESTOCK QUALITY ASSURANCE 2020

The dates scheduled below are for virtual QA options for 2020. ALL participants must register individual at go.osu.edu/MadCoVirtualQA at least 48 hours in advance of the session:

  • Session 4: Wednesday, May 20, 5:00-6:00pm
  • Session 5: Thursday, May 28, 4:00-5:00pm
  • Session 6: Thursday, June 11, 6:00-7:00pm
  • Session 7: Sunday, June 14, 4:00-5:00pm
  • Session 8: Tuesday, June 23, 6:00-7:00pm
  • Session 9: Thursday, June 25, 5:00-6:00pm

Members can also take advantage of the Online YQCA option. Cost is $12. Contact our office for details. *Note: There is a discount being offered from the company for APRIL ONLY! Contact us to get details on purchasing the coupon.

Finally, there may be a 3 year test out option for ages 12-14 and 15-18. Contact the office if you are interested.

For Ohio State Fair SWINE MARKET exhibitors only: Youth entering a market swine project at the Ohio State Fair for 2020 will be required to have a parent/guardian PQA certified  in order to meet packer requirements by June 20th (certification number is required for online fair entry) . This training can be done online. Contact Frances ASAP at nicol.115@osu.edu if you need this certification!

SKILLATHON STUDY GUIDES

All of the livestock skillathon study guides are now available at go.osu.edu/madcoskillathon!

There are also some practice quizzes available at madison.osu.edu/livestocklearninglab . Feel free to practice the online quizzes to help study various topics that can help in skillathons and in the show ring!

Skillathons will very likely not occur in person on June 27th and 30th. More information will be coming soon on the format for skillathons, but the content on the study guides is still the same. As of now, skillathon will still be required for fair participation.

Project Judging for 2020: As of now, we are planning for special interest project judging at the fair on July 11. No matter what happens, we will make sure that youth have a chance to complete an interview-like experience with a judge in 2020

FACE COVERING DONATIONS NEEDED!

Madison County EMA and the Health Department are working on a project to have volunteers make homemade face coverings to disperse to community members who are not able to afford or make their own.

There is some guidance on how to make cloth face coverings on CDC’s website. This is the information shared from the health department. It includes sew and no sew instructions that you can use to make masks: https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/prevent-getting-sick/diy-cloth-face-coverings.html

Contact Debby Sims, EMA Director, at dsims@co.madison.oh.us or 740-852-4200 to coordinate drop offs. Once they have a decent supply the Madison County EMA will serve as a distribution point where one can receive 1-2 face coverings per household member.

OHIO 4-H EVENT YOUTH ASSISTANTS – Due May 15

Interested in a leadership role at the state level? The 4-H Event Youth Assistants are a stateiwde group of teens that assist with Ohio State Fair events. It is a great way to gain leadershop skills and meet other 4-Hers from across the state! Events include: annoucing awards during the fair, assisting with project check in, helping with skillathons, etc.

OHIO 4-H CAMP…ISH

Ohio 4-H is excited to announce a statewide opportunity for youth ages 8-18 (kids enrolled in 4-H or not!) to partake in an at-home camp…ish experience! From June 9-11, join us for crafts, games, songs, and 4-H fun presented at Ohio 4-H Camp…ish! Green Range Meeting Minutes 5.3.20

Green Range 4-H Club held their fourth meeting on May 03, 2020 via Zoom at 5:00PM. The meeting was called to order by Caleb Dennison,  and pledges were led by Caleb Dennison.

The Secretary report and Treasures report was read and approved.

Safety report was given by Cheyenne Pearce:  Inside & Outdoor Safety around the Barn

Health report was given by Kali Kimbler: How to stay safety during the Pandemic

Energy report was given by Kaylee Bierbaugh: Switch to Energy Supplies in the home.

New Business:

Discussed Quality Assurance, tag & weigh in at fair and how we plan to grade members books.

QA there are (3) options available: You have either do 1 of 9 virtual Quality Assurance options, pay $12.00 to complete the online YQCA or an online test (12 years old as of January 1st).

The tag and weigh were cancelled so you must submit pictures of your animal by June 15th via fair entries.

Since advisors can’t grade members books this year the Green Range 4-H club will be doing project videos of animals to send to the appropriate species advisor. Member is still responsible to complete your book, you will need to show the completed book at your interview judging.

Members of the Green Range 4-H donated candy, toys and books to make twelve Easter Baskets for the Help House in London. Thank you to Jennifer Petee for putting together the basket and delivering the to the Help House.

4-H T-Shirt Design Contest

The Madison County 4-H Committee is sponsoring a T-Shirt Design Contest for 2020!

Rules:

  1. Contestants must be enrolled as a current 4-H member or adult volunteer in Madison County
  2. Design must be the work of a 4-H member or volunteer, not a commercial design
  3. Designs may be hand drawn or computer graphics
  4. Madison County must be included in the design in writing
  5. The 4-H Clover must be used in the design according to these rules: https://s3.wp.wsu.edu/uploads/sites/2070/2013/07/4H-Emblem-Quick-Ref.pdf
  6. Designs should be all encompassing and inclusive of what 4-H is in Madison County (i.e. not specific to a certain project)
  7. Designs will be printed on either White, Black, or 4-H Green T-Shirt
  8. Designs should be submitted at go.osu.edu/madco4hshirt. All designs should be received by June 1st, 2020 
  9. The designs will be judged by a local artist
  10. The winning design will be used as the official design on the county 4-H t-shirts which will be available for all 4-H members, volunteers, and supporters and may also be used on official flyers, posters, banners, etc. advertising 4-H!

The winner will receive a FREE t-shirt as well as recognition as the winning artist. All designs will be displayed at the 2020 Madison County Fair and electronically.

Designs are due June 1, 2020 to go.osu.edu/madco4hshirt!

MADISON COUNTY 4-H CAMP

All county and state 4-H Camps, including our Madison County 4-H Camp and Cloverbud Day Camp, are cancelled for 2020. We will have opportunities for virtual camps available to our youth! Watch for details to come. Thank you for your understanding. We hope to see everyone at Camp Clifton in 2021!

Discover how to turn trash into treasure! Join in on this virtual SPIN club opportunity  for live how-to sessions. Learn how to make projects from recycled items, such as wind chimes, bird feeders, games, etc. with materials found in your home!

Meetings are every Tuesday and Thursday, May 5th-29th at 3:30pm

SHEEP & GOAT TAG IN AND SWINE EAR NOTCH FORMS CANCELLED FOR MAY 2

All sheep, goat, and swine tag information will be required to be submitted via Fair Entry by June 15. There will be no in-person tagging or weigh in or paper drop off on May 2!

FAIR ROYALTY & SPECIES AMBASSADOR APPLICATIONS – Due June 15

All of the fair royalty and specie ambassador applications are now available at madison.osu.edu/fairroyalty

*Updated information for 2020:

  • Applications should be emailed directly to madisoncountyjfb@gmail.com by June 15th, or mailed to the OSU Extension Office (must be received by June 15).
  • Photos should be submitted electronically with the application materials.
  • The advisor recommendation forms will also be electronically submitted to the above email address.
  • A hard copy photo will be required to be brought in during the interviews on July 7.
  • There is no meeting on June 15th for royalty and ambassador applicants.
