2022 COM Annual Education Symposium

All Ohio State faculty, staff and students were invited to the College of Medicine’s 2022 Annual Education Symposium, a one-day event on January 26, 2022.

Following the 2021 Annual Education Symposium, feedback from participants, the Planning Committee, and leaders highlighted the need to continue building the critical conscious skills (Kumagai & Lypson, 2009) of Wexner faculty, staff, and learners.  In 2021 alone, more than 15,000 journal articles have been published related to critical consciousness and cultural competence in healthcare and health sciences education, reinforcing the importance of developing awareness, introspection, sensitivity, and humility to promote inclusive, accessible, and diverse learning environments, organizations, and clinics.

This year’s topic, “Eliminating Bias and Fostering Inclusion in Health Sciences Curricula,” helped to establish a common language, provided a safe space for conversation, and equipped attendees with skills to begin taking action to eliminate bias and foster inclusion in health sciences curricula.
