Still Project Judging Reminders

Reminder: Youth must attend a county level judging for still projects this year. There will be no advisor grade options this year. More information can be found on page 5 of the Muskingum County 4-H Owner’s Manual.

Writing Project Portfolios Due – June 30

Project #588 The Writer in You: Writing portfolio must be submitted to the Extension Office by June 30 at 4:30 p.m. to be reviewed by the judge. Failure to do so will result in loss of at least one letter grade at judging. Members will not receive their portfolio back before judging. Portfolios will be brought to judging by the judge.

Portfolios should be in a notebook or folder and include a cover sheet with the youth’s name, 4-H age and include the items listed on page 40 of the project book (Activity 2-10). Members must bring their completed project book and an educational display to Still Project Judging. More information can be found on page 11 of the Muskingum County 4-H Owner’s Manual.

Demonstrations & Illustrated Talks Contest Registration Deadline – June 30

JUNIOR FAIR

Market Lamb & Goat Registration – June 6, 4-7 p.m.

All Market Lamb & Goat project participants must attend Lamb & Goat Registration to have their animals tagged and weighed on June 6 from 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. at the Hog Barn on the fairgrounds. All animals must go across the scales. There is no paperwork for youth to complete and bring with them to weigh-in. After registration, exhibitors will be responsible for completing the online entry process using the Fair Ear Tag # by June 30. Back-up animals must be tagged and registered by the deadline. All lambs & goats exhibited at the Muskingum County Fair are required to have a scrapie ID prior to exhibiting at the fair. All market lambs & goats must have a scrapie tag in their ear prior to arriving at Lamb & Goat Registration. If a lamb or goat does not have a scrapie ID at weigh-in, the animal will be dismissed. Ear tag IDs must be in the animal’s ear.

Fair Entry Notes:

  • Carcass Lamb:  The Muskingum County Sheep Producers Improvement Association is sponsoring a carcass lamb activity for Junior Fair exhibitors this year.  To register, youth must check yes when completing their fair entries.
  • Carcass Goat:  The Junior Fair Goat Committee is sponsoring a carcass goat activity for Junior Fair exhibitors this year.  To register, youth must check yes when completing their fair entries.

Breeding Rabbit Registration – June 6, 6-8 p.m.

Breeding Rabbit Registration is scheduled for June 6 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the Rabbit Barn on the fairgrounds.  All rabbits must be tattooed at that time if they do not already have a tattoo. If rabbits are already tattooed, they do not need to attend registration. There is no paperwork for youth to complete and bring with them to registration. Exhibitors will be responsible for completing the online entry process using the appropriate tattoos by June 30. Back-up rabbits must be tattooed and registered by the deadline. Livestock Quality Assurance Deadline Reminder – June 15

The deadline for youth exhibitors to receive their Quality Assurance Certification in order to exhibit at the Muskingum County Fair is June 15. Youth will need to complete the YQCA online course if they do not have their certification yet. Details: 2022 Quality Assurance Details

Horse Education Program Deadline Reminder – June 15

The deadline for youth exhibitors to complete their Horse Education Program requirement in order to exhibit at the Muskingum County Fair is June 15. OHIO STATE FAIR

PAS Show Reminder

PAS Show

Due to a judge cancellation, the PAS Show WILL NOT BE HELD on June 18. It will take place June 10, starting at 5 p.m. There will NOT be a pre-registration, youth will register for classes at the show.

State Fair entry deadline for horses is July 1.

Ohio State Fair Livestock and Dog Show Entry Deadline

Youth wishing to show livestock (other than horses) or dogs at the Ohio State Fair must complete the entry process by June 20. For more information, visit the Ohio State Fair’s website.

Review the 2022 Muskingum County Junior Fair Livestock Entry Instructions BEFORE starting your entries.

DO NOT WAIT UNTIL THE LAST MINUTE TO COMPLETE ENTRIES. IF YOU HAVE ISSUES OR YOUR ENTRIES ARE INCORRECT, YOU JEOPARDIZE THE OPPORTUNITY TO EXHIBIT AT THE FAIR.

  • If you have questions, ask! If you need assistance with the entry process, contact the Extension Office: 740-454-0144, Jamie McConnell (mcconnell.210@osu.edu) or Debbie Dunn (dunn.257@osu.edu). Staff are not available to help outside regular business hours (M-F, 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m., closed for lunch 12:30-1:30 p.m.). The Fair Entry Manager, NOT the Extension Office, reviews entries and approves/rejects them.
  • All 4-H and FFA youth must complete livestock entries in order to exhibit in the Muskingum County Junior Fair. THIS IS NOT FOR OPEN CLASS ENTRIES. This is a separate entry from the 4-H/FFA project enrollment due April 1.
  • Livestock entries must be submitted online in Fair Entry (muskingum.fairentry.com) by established deadlines listed below, NO EXCEPTIONS. You can use a computer or mobile device, but a computer is recommended.
  • Fair Entry will open June 6 for all entries except market rabbits. It will open for market rabbits on July 21.
  • All entries are due online by June 30 at 11:59 p.m., EXCEPT market rabbits, which are due July 26 at 11:59 p.m. Showmanship has an earlier deadline this year for the following species: beef, dairy, goat, poultry, rabbit, sheep and swine. There will NOT be showmanship sign-ups after June 30.
  • This year, entries will be reviewed and approved/rejected by the Fair Entry Manager as they are submitted. Families receive an email from Fair Entry when entries are submitted – this does not mean the entries are approved. Families should watch for a second e-mail, which will indicate if entries were approved/rejected. If entries are approved, forward this e-mail to your club/chapter leader. If entries are rejected, review the reason and resubmit entries before the deadline.

Notes about Animal Registration Events
There is no paperwork for exhibitors to bring with them to the following registration events:

  • Market Goat – ALL market goats must be weighed in and tagged at June 6 Market Goat Registration. After registration, exhibitors will be responsible for completing the online entry process using the Fair Ear Tag # by June 30.

Demonstrations & Illustrated Talks Contest Registration Open Now! Deadline to Register: June 30

4-H members are encouraged to participate in the 2022 Demonstrations & Illustrated Talks Contest on July 6! This year, the contest is the same date as Still Project Judging to so youth can participate in both judging opportunities if they like!

  • Youth can do a demonstration/illustrated talk on a topic of their choice (this could be a topic from their still project already being judged!)
  • Divisions are Junior Individual/Team (ages 8-10), Intermediate Individual/Team (ages 11-3), Senior Individual/Team (ages 14-18). Junior Divisions are without the use of computer technology, Intermediate and Senior Divisions can be with/or without technology.
  • Youth may be selected for the Ohio State Fair!
  • Each youth receives a $10 Walmart gift card, sponsored by the 4-H Committee, for participating in a contest.

Cloverbud Camp Registration Information Now Available!

4-H Cloverdude Camp

We anticipate camp will be full and there may be a wait list. PLEASE only pre-register if your child plans to attend camp. It takes more staff time to follow up with wait listed campers when members decide not to attend.

Cloverbud Day Camp is scheduled for June 24 at KD Guest Ranch in Adamsville.

2022 Cloverbud Day Camp is sponsored by:

  • A first-come, first-serve pre-registration will take place May 23-25 online.   • Pre-registered campers will receive full registration details on May 27. Cost per camper is $40.

Early Still Project Judging Registration Now Available!

4-H projects must be judged at the county level to be completed. There are no advisor grade options for project completion.

Youth must attend one of three judging opportunities to have still projects judged. Youth must attend Still Project Judging on July 6 to be eligible for county awards or Ohio State Fair selection.
