Office Closed, Veteran’s Day Observed – November 11

Our office will be closed Wednesday, November 11 in observance of Veteran’s Day.

4-H Committee Applications Due – November 15

Any current 4-H volunteers interested in applying to become a member of the Muskingum County 4-H Committee should submit a completed application to the Extension Office by November 15 at 4:30 p.m. Selected volunteers serve a three year term. 

The 4-H Committee serves as an advisory committee for the 4-H program and assists with county-wide 4-H programs like the 4-H Kick-Off and Volunteer Recognition Banquet. The application is available on our website.

New 4-H Volunteer Application Now Available!

Interested in serving as a club or committee volunteer starting in 2021? Adults who desire to volunteer their time, energy and talents to Ohio State University Extension and the Muskingum County 4-H program as a club or committee volunteer must successfully complete the volunteer selection process. Volunteer applicants must have approval from the club organizational volunteer or committee president to be considered. Upon completion of the application, the club organizational volunteer will receive an e-mail asking them to confirm the applicant as a potential volunteer for their club. Jamie will contact committee presidents directly if there is any question about volunteer applicants!

This year, the application can be completed and submitted entirely online! The required interview and orientation are scheduled to take place via Zoom. Find details and the application on our website: https://muskingum.osu.edu/joinCompleted Volunteer Applications MUST be submitted by 11:59 p.m. on January 15, 2021 to begin the selection process in 2021.  All steps of the volunteer selection process must be completed by February 15, 2021 to begin volunteer service in 2021.

Reminder to organizational volunteers: All 4-H clubs must have at least two approved volunteers by February 15, 2021. Clubs that do not have two approved volunteers on February 15 will not be considered active for the 2021 program year.

Friends of 4-H Camp Ohio is in it’s beginning stages. This network will help people who are passionate about camp to connect with camp. Members of the network will be able to help improve camp using their unique talents and through volunteer opportunities. Members will also be kept up to date on camp events and happenings, as well as be invited to members only 4-H Camp Ohio events.

4-H Committee Seeking New Members

Any current 4-H volunteers interested in applying to become a member of the Muskingum County 4-H Committee should submit a completed application by November 15 at 11:59 p.m.

The 4-H Committee serves as an advisory committee for the 4-H program and assists with county-wide 4-H programs like the 4-H Kick-Off, Volunteer Recognition Banquet, Older Youth Opportunities Interviews and Club/Committee Audits.

The committee meets five times per year, on the first Monday of February, April, July, October and December.

Adult members apply and are selected to serve a three year term by the committee members. Adult members are selected to represent a geographical area of the county based upon where their 4-H club meets. Three at-large members are also selected from any area of the county.

Youth members are Junior Leaders elected to a one year term by the club’s membership.

2021 Camp Counselor Application Now Available!

Camp counselors work with an Extension professional, adult 4-H volunteers, and the 4-H Camp Ohio staff to conduct a variety of outdoor learning experiences for campers ages 8-13. Counselors work with a partner to supervise a small group of campers in a cabin living environment. Camp counselors attend 20+ hours of meetings and activities from December through June to plan camp activities and learn skills needed to be an effective camp counselor. Camp counselor applicants must be ages 14 to 18. To be eligible to be a counselor, candidates must be a 4-H member in good standing. Complete Camp Counselor Application by November 15, 11:59 p.m. and participate in Counselor Selection Night on December 1 if applicant has not served as a counselor.

  • Name and E-mail address of two non-family members to serve as a reference (new members only). References Due November 15.

2021 Junior Fair Board Applications Now Available!

County Junior Fair Board is comprised of representatives from several youth organizations including 4-H, FFA, FCCLA, Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts and Youth Grange. Junior Fair Board members are responsible for the design, implementation and evaluation of many Junior Fair aspects of the Muskingum County Fair. Interested applicants must complete a Junior Fair Board Application by November 15 at 11:59 p.m. Interviews for new members will be held on December 9 via Zoom.

Muskingum County 4-H Achievement Form Now Available!

The 2021 Muskingum County 4-H Achievement Form is now available. Youth can complete this application for the following opportunities:

County Medal Awards

4-H members of any age who demonstrate exemplary achievement in a specific project area over a period of three or more years can apply to earn one of three potential County Medal Awards in any of the over 25 project areas. Youth are eligible to win more than once. Winners over 14 years of age may be nominated for a State 4-H Achievement Award. Complete and submit the Muskingum County 4-H Achievement Form by November 15 at 11:59 p.m.

County 4-H Ambassador

Four teens are selected to represent the 4 Hs – Head, Heart, Hands and Health. The purpose of the 4-H Ambassadors is to promote 4-H in Muskingum County and develop leadership skills by assisting with and participating in various activities throughout the year. Priority will be given to 14 – 18 year olds; however, 13 year olds may apply. Youth selected for 2021 will have a unique opportunity to help determine the direction of the 4-H Ambassador program for years to come!  Interested applicants must complete the Muskingum County Achievement Form by November 15 at 11:59 p.m. Interviews will be held on December 9 via Zoom.

4-H Leadership Camp – June 1-5, 2021

Each county may nominate youth to attend State Leadership Camp to strengthen skills and experience personal growth at 4-H Camp Ohio. Must be 14 years of age by January 1 of the current year to attend the camp. Interested applicants must complete the Muskingum County Achievement Form by November 15 at 11:59 p.m. Interviews will be held on December 9 via Zoom. Full scholarship available to selected county delegates.

Ohio 4-H Sea Camp – July 15-19, 2021

The mission of Ohio 4-H Sea Camp is to offer teenage youth an introduction to the Great Lakes through hands-on experiences in a variety of aquatic-based programs. Sea Camp will enable participants to experience Lake Erie-based activities and culture such as aquatic science, water recreation, and fishing. It is open to youth ages 15-17. Interested applicants must complete the Muskingum County Achievement Form by November 15 at 11:59 p.m. Interviews will be held on December 9 via Zoom. Full scholarship available to selected county delegates.

Citizenship Washington Focus – June 2021 Virtual Dates TBA

Recommended ages 16 and older. National 4-H has already announced that Citizenship Washington Focus will be virtual in 2021. We do not have additional details at this time. Full scholarship available to selected county delegates. Participating in the 2021 virtual event will not prevent youth from being selected for a scholarship to attend the event face-to-face in future years. Interested applicants must complete the Muskingum County Achievement Form by November 15 at 11:59 p.m. Interviews will be held on December 9 via Zoom. 

Leadership Washington Focus – June 2021 Virtual Dates TBA

Experience a national leadership development experience designed exclusively for 4-H’ers entering grades 7-9. National 4-H has already announced that Leadership Washington Focus will be virtual in 2021. We do not have additional details at this time. Full scholarship available to selected county delegates. Participating in the 2021 virtual event will not prevent youth from being selected for a scholarship to attend the event face-to-face in future years. Interested applicants must complete the Muskingum County Achievement Form by November 15 at 11:59 p.m. Interviews will be held on December 9 via Zoom.

Junior Leadership Club Enrollment Form Now Available!

4-H teens have the opportunity to participate in leadership development in a countywide group beyond their local 4-H club. The group meets year round at various locations throughout the county and state with a focus on career opportunities, leadership, citizenship and developing relationships among its members. Members must be at least age 13 by January 1, 2021. Enrollment due November 15 at 11:59 p.m.

4-H CARTEENS Application Now Available!

The Muskingum County 4-H CARTEENS program is a court mandated program for first-time juvenile traffic offenders. 4-H CARTEENS is a peer education program, which simply means the program is taught by teens. Applicants must be 15 years of age and have an Ohio’s learner’s permit or driver’s license. Applications accepted year round.

Ohio 4-H Foundation Celebration of Youth Event – November 5

Join the Ohio 4-H Foundation for this year’s Celebration of Youth event on Thursday, November 5 at 7:00. This year, for the first time, the virtual event is open to everyone free of charge.  Participants will enjoy a program featuring many Ohio 4-H members and an online auction. Funds raised from Celebration of Youth support Ohio 4-H programming and operations to help engage youth across Ohio’s 88 counties.
