In 2016, the city of Columbus was awarded grant money from the U.S. Department of Transportation to develop into a “Smart City”. One of the main projects is focused on providing basic services to the community Linden, a residential area in Columbus. Our division of Watts Scientific is tasked with designing and innovating an Advanced Energy Vehicle (AEV) that can transport the residents of Linden to multiple commercial districts via monorail.
Our approach to complete this task will be split into multiple phases. The first phase will be identifying the constraints of the AEV, such as budget and safety, and brainstorming initial concepts. The next phase will be research and development of the AEV. This phase will consist of a cycle of analyzing the results from experiments, performing more research, and testing intermediate designs until a final design is decided. Once the final design is tested successfully, and all components of the AEV have been examined to fit the constraints, the final AEV will be presented.
