New 4-H Community Club Volunteer Application Now Available!

Interested in serving as a 4-H Community Club or Committee volunteer in 2020? Applications can be picked up in our office or downloaded from our website at:  4-H Youth Development>Volunteer Resources.

The new volunteer selection process requires successful completion of an application, background check, interview and orientation session. All parts of the process must be completed before an applicant receives approval.

Applications are due by January 15 at 4:30 p.m.

Office Closed, Veteran’s Day Observed – November 11

Our office will be closed on Monday, November 11 in observance of Veteran’s Day.

4-H CARTEENS – November 14

4-H CARTEENS takes place at the Muskingum County Juvenile Court. Youth interested in becoming 4-H CARTEENS volunteer presenters should contact the Extension Office for details.

4-H Committee Applications Due – November 15, 4:30 p.m.

Any current 4-H volunteers interested in applying to become a member of the Muskingum County 4-H Committee should submit a completed application to the Extension Office by November 15 at 4:30 p.m. Selected volunteers serve a three year term. 

The 4-H Committee serves as an advisory committee for the 4-H program and assists with county-wide 4-H programs like the 4-H Kick-Off and Volunteer Recognition Banquet. Applications are available on our website and at the Extension Office.

The fourteen counties that utilize 4-H Camp Ohio are coming together during October to reach a goal of $30,000. Combined with other grants and donations already collected, this goal will make camp’s dream of great facilities a reality! If each county’s 4-H families collectively contribute just $2,200, we’ll meet our goal! All donations are tax deductible and 100% goes directly to facility improvements at Camp Ohio! All contributions, small and large, will make a difference! Please consider donating today at go.osu.edu/CampOhio and show camp that Muskingum County cares!

 

2020 Market Steer Weigh-In – December 9, 5-7 p.m.

Steer registration and weigh-in will be held Monday, December 9, 2019 from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. at Muskingum Livestock Sale Barn, located on Malinda Street in Zanesville. All steers must be tagged and weighed-in at this time to be eligible to exhibit at the 2020 Muskingum County Fair.

Youth who exhibited a steer or feeder calf in 2019 will receive a letter and registration form in the mail with details in the near future.

Tractor Supply Paper Clover Campaign: October 9-20

Tractor Supply Company (TSC) continues its support of 4-H through the Paper Clover Campaign. The fall campaign is scheduled for October 9-20. This fundraising program has been very successful in Muskingum County!

TSC sells paper clovers for $1 each during the campaign and proceeds go directly to 4-H. Seventy percent comes back to the county and 30 percent is divided among state and national 4-H organizations.

Encourage your friends and family to purchase a paper clover during the campaign!

If your club would like to help sell clovers or help promote 4-H during the campaign, be sure to call Zanesville’s TSC store at (740) 455-3441 and talk to the manager about how your club can help!

2020 Junior Leaders Enrollment Form Now Available!

4-H teens have the opportunity to participate in leadership development beyond their club. The group meets several times per year at various locations throughout the county and state with a focus on career opportunities, leadership, citizenship and developing relationships among its members. Members must be at least age 14 by January 1 of the current year.

Junior Leaders is a great place to start getting involved in 4-H teen leadership opportunities!

4-H Achievement Form Now Available!

Complete the 4-H Achievement Form to be eligible for the following opportunities and recognition.

  • County Medal Awards – 4-H members who demonstrate exemplary achievement in a specific project area over a period of years can apply to earn one of three potential County Medal Awards in any of the over 25 project areas. Youth are eligible to win more than once. 4-H members of any age can apply. Winners over 14 years of age may be nominated for a State 4-H Achievement Award.
  • County 4-H Ambassador – The purpose of the 4-H Ambassador is to promote 4-H in Muskingum County and develop leadership skills. You’ll have a chance to assist with various activities throughout the year. Priority will be given to 14 – 18 year olds; however, 13 year olds may apply.
  • Citizenship Washington Focus (June 14-20) – Spend one week in Washington, D.C. with 4-H’ers from other states participating in workshops and touring our nation’s capital. Recommended ages 16 and older.
  • Leadership Washington Focus (July 27-31) – Experience a national leadership development experience designed exclusively for 4-H’ers entering grades 7-9. Youth learn leadership skills using an experiential learning model based in 4-H curriculum and the living classroom of Washington D.C.
  • State 4-H Leadership Camp (June 1-5, 2020) – Each county may nominate youth to attend State Leadership Camp to strengthen skills and experience personal growth at 4-H Camp Ohio. Must be 14 years of age by January 1 of the current year to attend the camp.
  • Ohio 4-H Sea Camp (July 11-15) – The mission of Ohio 4-H Sea Camp is to offer teenage youth an introduction to the Great Lakes through hands-on experiences in a variety of aquatic-based programs. Sea Camp will enable participants to experience Lake Erie-based activities and culture such as aquatic science, water recreation, and fishing. It is open to youth ages 15-17.

A limited number of full scholarships for state trips are furnished through the Muskingum County 4-H Endowment Fund and selected by members of the 4-H Committee.

2020 Camp Counselor Application Now Available!

Camp counselors work with an Extension professional, adult 4-H volunteers, and the 4-H Camp Ohio staff to conduct a variety of outdoor learning experiences for campers ages 8-13. Counselors work with a partner to supervise a small group of campers in a cabin living environment. Camp counselors attend 20+ hours of meetings and activities from December through June to plan camp activities and learn skills needed to be an effective camp counselor. Camp counselor applicants must be ages 14 to 18. To be eligible to be a counselor, candidates must be a 4-H member in good standing.
