Junior Fair Livestock Committee Applications Now Available!

Applications are now available for adult members of the Junior Fair Livestock Committee. Members are elected by the committee to serve a three year term in one of the following areas: beef, dairy, sheep or swine. Members must be approved 4-H volunteers – if not currently a 4-H volunteer, the applicant must be willing and able to complete the 4-H Volunteer Selection Process in 2020.

Youth members who serve on this committee are Junior Fair Board members assigned to those departments.

This year, I will be hosting a workshop for ANYONE interested in learning more about completing the County 4-H Achievement form (youth, parents, volunteers) to be eligible for 4-H Ambassador, county medals, state trips & camps and state award opportunities. Download the cover sheet and achievement form from our website.

These opportunities include:

  • County Medal Awards
  • State 4-H Achievement Award
  • County 4-H Ambassador
  • Citizenship Washington Focus
  • Leadership Washington Focus
  • State 4-H Leadership Camp

A limited number of full scholarships for state trips are furnished through the Muskingum County 4-H Endowment Fund and selected by members of the 4-H Committee.

The workshop will take place September 18 from 6-8 p.m. in the Extension Office Meeting Room. Please RSVP, as the session will not be held if there are no RSVPs.

Friend of 4-H and Montgomery Leadership Award Nominations Due – September 1

The 4-H Committee is now accepting nominations for the Muskingum County Friend of 4-H Award, which recognizes an individual, family, business or organization who has provided exceptional support to the county 4-H program.

It’s also time for outstanding 4-H volunteers to be nominated to receive the John & Dorothy Montgomery Leadership Award.

Nomination forms for both awards are available at the Extension Office or on our website under 4-H Youth Development>Volunteer Resources. Completed nominations are due to the Extension Office by September 1Because the deadline falls on Sunday, we will accept the next business day – Tuesday, September 3.

Both awards will be presented at the Volunteer Recognition Banquet on September 25.

4-H CARTEENS takes place at the Muskingum County Juvenile Court. Youth interested in becoming 4-H CARTEENS volunteer presenters should contact the Extension Office for details.

All 2019 4-H Volunteers should have received an e-mail invitation to the 4-H Volunteer Recognition Banquet. Deadline to RSVP is September 9.

Livestock Committees – September 26

Livestock Committees will meet at designated times at the Veteran’s Building at the Muskingum County Fairgrounds.

STEM Activities at the Fair

Be sure to stop by the 3 Gables Building at the Fair on Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 11a-1p to participate in STEM Challenges and visit with Trevor! We will have the AgBots and other activities available each day! Thanks to Muskingum County Farm Bureau for partnering on this activity!

It’s so Refreshing to Have Great Volunteers Like You!

Who:     All Muskingum County 4-H Volunteers

Volunteers with years of service in multiples of five (5, 10, 15, 20, etc.) will   receive special recognition during the event!

What:   4-H Volunteer Recognition Banquet

When:   Wednesday, September 25 at 6:00 p.m.

Where: Rolling Plains United Methodist Church, 3350 Moxahala Park Road, Zanesville

Cost: Volunteers are free! Guests are welcome at $12 each.

RSVP: Call the Extension Office by Monday, September 9. If you are bringing a guest, please send your payment with a check payable to Muskingum County 4-H Committee to: Muskingum County 4-H Committee, c/o BJ Fox, 500 Jersey Ridge Road, Zanesville, OH 43701.  Payment for guests is due by Monday, September 9.

PHOTOS FOR SLIDESHOW WANTED: Volunteers are encouraged to submit up to 5 photos of their club activities from this year AND a picture of their club volunteers.

 

4-H Scavenger Hunt

New this year at the fair there will be a 4-H Scavenger Hunt for all youth 18 and under.

 

Youth will find educational displays throughout the fairgrounds which tell about various aspects of Muskingum County 4-H or the project areas. Youth will just need to complete the form hanging under the displays and return the completed form to the Junior Fair Office. Completed scavenger hunts will be rewarded with an ice cream coupon sponsored by the Muskingum County Dairy Promoters.
