4-H Committee Meeting – December 3

The 4-H Committee will meet in the Extension Office Meeting Room from 6-7:30 p.m.

Junior Fair Market Steer Weigh In – December 10, 5-7 p.m.

All market steers to be exhibited at the 2019 Muskingum County Fair must come to steer registration day to be tagged and weighed, NO EXCEPTIONS. Please refer to the 2019 Market Steer Weigh-In Information Letter and Registration Form for complete details.

Older Youth Opportunities Interviews – December 12, by appointment

Youth who submitted a Muskingum County 4-H Achievement Form and indicated interest in one of the following opportunities should contact the Extension Office to schedule an interview: County 4-H Ambassador, State 4-H Leadership Camp, Citizenship Washington Focus and Leadership Washington Focus.

4-H CARTEENS Program – December 13

4-H CARTEENS takes place at the Muskingum County Juvenile Court. Youth interested in becoming 4-H CARTEENS volunteer presenters should contact the Extension Office for details.

Junior Leaders Meeting – December 17

Meeting details were sent via e-mail to youth who filled out a 2019 Junior Leaders enrollment form. Contact the Extension Office with questions.

4-H Camp Team Workshop – December 27

Camp Counselors and adult volunteers will participate in a day-long workshop to begin plans for 2019 4-H Junior Camp.

Junior Leaders Officer Meeting – December 28, 10 a.m. – 1 p.m.

2019 Junior Leaders Officers will meet in the Extension Office Meeting Room to plan the 2019 calendar.

Volunteer Background Check Deadline – December 31

Volunteers who received a letter indicating they are required to complete a background check to continue service in 2019 must do so by December 31. Please contact the Extension Office with questions.

2019 Mandatory Volunteer Training

As many of you know, the Muskingum County 4-H program requires ALL volunteers to participate in one Mandatory Volunteer Training annually to remain an approved 4-H volunteer.  This includes committee and camp volunteers. We will be offering three opportunities for you to complete this requirement. All trainings will take place at Rolling Plains United Methodist Church (note new location). Dates of the 2019 Mandatory Volunteer Trainings are:

  1. Wednesday, January 9, 2019; 6pm – 8pm
  2. Saturday, January 12, 2019; 10am – 12pm
  3. Wednesday, January 16, 2019; 6pm – 8pm

Volunteers will participate in a program update and breakout sessions. Topics of breakout sessions will be made available closer to the January training.

Muskingum County 4-H Scholarship Application Now Available!

Since 2015, the Muskingum County 4-H Committee has awarded scholarships to recognize 4-H members and alumni for their achievements. In 2019, a minimum of two $500 scholarships will be awarded at the 4-H Kick-Off.

Applicants must:

  • be a current 4-H Member or alumni of Muskingum County 4-H;
  • be a current year graduating high school senior, or equivalent of a college freshman or sophomore (proof of equivalent in a home school program by the end of the current school year is acceptable);
  • be active in 4-H for the previous three (3) consecutive years;
  • have a GPA of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale based on the most recently completed semester;
  • plan to attend (or currently attending) any post-secondary educational institution.

Applications are due January 31.

Reminder: 4-H Junior Camp Counselor Applications Due November 15!

4-H members ages 14-18 as of January 1, 2019 can now apply to serve as a 4-H Camp Counselor in 2019. The application is available for download on our website or can be picked up at the Extension Office.

All applicants must complete and return an application and two references by November 15, 2018 at 4:30 p.m. Applicants who have not served as a camp counselor in the past are also required to attend Camp Counselor Selection Night at the Extension Office on November 29.

4-H Junior Camp will take place June 9-13, 2019 at 4-H Camp Ohio in St. Louisville.

2019 Market Steer Weigh-In Information

2019 Market Steer Weigh-In Information is now available.

The following is information for registering 2019 market steer projects. All market steers to be exhibited at the 2019 Muskingum County Fair must come to steer registration day to be tagged and weighed, NO EXCEPTIONS.

  1. Steer registration and weigh-in will be held Monday, December 10, 2018 from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. at Muskingum Livestock Sale Barn, located on Malinda Street in Zanesville. All steers must be tagged and weighed-in at this time to be eligible to exhibit at the 2019 Muskingum County Fair.
    • Youth may bring up to two steers to be registered in their name.
    • Steers must be on a halter at registration and should be halter broke.
  2. Steers must be owned, being cared for and in continuous possession of the member by weigh-in date (December 2018).
  3. All steers must have been born after January 1, 2018 and must be dehorned and castrated. Calves will be checked for proper dehorning and castration by a licensed veterinarian at the December weigh-in.  There will be no on-site castration. Steers must be castrated prior to arrival at December weigh-in.

New 4-H Volunteer Applications Now Available

Interested in serving as a 4-H volunteer in 2019? Applications can be picked up in our office or downloaded from our website at:  4-H Youth Development>Volunteer Resources.

The new volunteer selection process requires successful completion of an application, background check, interview and orientation session. All parts of the process must be completed before an applicant receives approval.

Applications are due by January 15 at 4:30 p.m.
