Note: The pros and cons are based on a comparison to the reference AEV and with more development the designs will reflect the descriptions more accurately. The concept screening and scoring’s used to determine the pros and cons can be found here.
Division H Concept Sketches
Division H: Using the design ideas from each member in our division, our division came up with an overall concept sketch of the AEV we will be testing. This includes the nose cone that will help with aerodynamics. It uses the lighter and more compact arm to reduce the weight of the AEV along with a t-shaped base to maintain balance. These additions will be helpful to complete the scenario as the AEV will travel efficiently as possible.
Pros: Efficiency, Aesthetics
Cons: None
Erin: This arm is more compact and lighter compared to the longer arm which will increase efficiency. The battery is to be placed on one side to evenly distribute the weight of the entire setup so it does not lean when on the track.
Pros: Efficiency
Cons: Aesthetics
Justin: The long and skinny base will be more aerodynamic and the T-shape base allows for optimal weight distribution. The arm is lighter and the raised propellers add to the sleekness of the design.
Pros: Aesthetics
Cons: Efficiency, Stability
Grace: With this design, the base will help maintain balance and be able to distribute weight evenly. The nose cone can be 3D printed and help the design be more aerodynamic.
Pros: Stability
Cons: Efficiency, Stability
Sara: This design utilizes one rectangular piece as a base with trapezoids on the side to maintain balance. A nose cone on the front of the AEV will help aerodynamics.
Pros: Efficiency
Cons: Safety, Stability
