Each member’s concepts were scored according to the following criteria:
- Stability – The AEV’s ability to stay on the track without tipping over and adjust to changing track conditions such as slopes and carrying a caboose.
- Safety – The AEV’s ability to complete the run safely by minimizing damages caused by accidents or misfires.
- Weight/Size – The AEV’s overall size and weight. High weight/large size can result in detrimental performance or overall cost of AEV.
- Cost Efficiency – The cost to construct the AEV as well as complete the run.
