F. Week 6 (Grant Proposals and Committee Meetings)

During week 6, a mix of grant proposals, committee meetings, and AEV construction took place.

At the beginning of the lab hour, each team presented their idea for a custom AEV part. The ideas pitched ranged from aerodynamic hoods to new bases for the model to be constructed on. Following the presentations, teams voted for their favorite design with the winning team receiving 100% funding to construct the part. Presented below is Team E’s grant proposal design.

The part was designed to be an aerodynamic hood. The parts provided in the AEV kit did not allow for a sleek hood or curved slope to be constructed.  The custom made part solves the issue; it utilizes a streamlined body with curved sidings. Preliminary research suggests power and energy would be saved due to the reduced drag force. Thus, the addition of the part allows for energy and power savings, leading to a cost savings for the overall project.

Following the grant proposals, committee meetings were held as a means of checking in on the progress of the AEV. Committees on public relations, research and development, and human resources met for discussion in their area of expertise.

Following the completion of the committee meetings, assembly for the final AEV model began. Team members assisted in constructing the final model pictured below
