February

Date: 2-4-18

Time: 3:50 p.m.

Location: n/a (Phone conference)

Members Present: Ben Scheiber (BS), Michael Rizzoni (MR), Parker Davis (PD)

Topics Discussed: Website updates, MatLab Data, Progress Report

_______________________________________________________________________

Objective: Assign members to roles for getting the Progress Report 1 written by Thursday, February 8th.

_______________________________________________________________________

To Do/Action Items: Split up work evenly among team members, discuss matrix scoring, individual sketch designs by members, power vs energy and distance plots

_______________________________________________________________________

Decisions: Parker will obtain the MatLab data for the AEV trial runs off the Hitchcock computers on Monday, February 5th in class (initiated by Parker). Michael will complete the scoring matrices for the individual designs and upload the scoring to the website (initiated by Michael). Concerning the progress report, Michael and Ben will work on the backwards looking section, Parker will write the forwards looking section, and Martin will write the appendices (initiated by Parker, Ben, and Michael). All team members will have their respective sections completed by Wednesday February 7th so the final document may be edited and reviewed before submission on the 8th.

Reflections: Phone conference was successful. Appropiate meeting for quick meetings and for assigning tasks to group members. Work was evenly and fairly distributed, and tasks should be completed by the necessary due date.

Date: 2-8-18

Time: 11:10 a.m.

Location: Hitchcock 224

Members Present: Ben Scheiber (BS), Michael Rizzoni (MR), Parker Davis (PD),
Martin Lallemand (ML)

Topics Discussed: Advanced R&D 1: Battery Testing

_______________________________________________________________________

Objective: Complete Battery Testing procedure
_______________________________________________________________________

To Do/Action Items: Complete procedure; graph data; analyze results
_______________________________________________________________________

Decisions: One battery will be tested to enable more in-depth testing.
The command block will be relatively long and use commands used in
normal AEV use, including goFor(), celerate(), and brake().
_______________________________________________________________________

Reflections: AEV distance traveled varies greatly depending on battery
voltage. This will make coasting to brake very difficult.

_______________________________________________________________________

Date: 2-15-18

Time: 11:10 a.m.

Location: Hitchcock 224

Members Present: Ben Scheiber (BS), Michael Rizzoni (MR), Parker Davis (PD),
Martin Lallemand (ML)

Topics Discussed: Committee Meeting 1

_______________________________________________________________________

Objective: Meet with separate committees and present progress and any
issues encountered so far.
_______________________________________________________________________

To Do/Action Items: Committee meetings, continued AEV work.
_______________________________________________________________________

Decisions: Some final design decisions were made for the AEV in terms
of parts to be used. The AEV was fully assembled.
_______________________________________________________________________

Reflections: The team is making good progress and running into few
issues. The documentation is good and Advanced R&D is going well.

Date: 2-22-18

Time: 11:10 a.m.

Location: Hitchcock 224

Members Present: Ben Scheiber (BS), Michael Rizzoni (MR), Parker Davis (PD), Martin Lallemand (ML)

Topics Discussed: Advanced R&D 2: Energy Analysis
_______________________________________________________________________

Objective: Analyze energy use of the AEV over time; verify that the
vehicle distance measurement system is functioning; calculate friction
and propeller forces.
_______________________________________________________________________

To Do/Action Items: Complete Energy Analysis procedure and enter data
into data sheet. Verify accuracy of data and share with Director of R&D.
Complete lab documentation.
_______________________________________________________________________

Decisions: AEV design friction is comparable to other designs tested but
slightly lower. This is a good development and the team will continue to
use the lightweight design.
Website Update 3 tasks were assigned but the site is mostly
up-to-date, so only minor modifications will be required.
Presentation roles and topics assigned.
_______________________________________________________________________

Reflections: AEV measurement system is calibrated and working properly.
Design has good aerodynamics and performs well. The motors also work
well. Development can continue as planned.

_______________________________________________________________________

Date: 3-1-18

Time: 11:10 a.m.

Location: Hitchcock 224

Members Present: Ben Scheiber (BS), Michael Rizzoni (MR), Parker Davis (PD), Martin Lallemand (ML)

Topics Discussed: R&D Oral Presentations

_______________________________________________________________________

Objective: Share and confirm research findings with other groups;
gather research on other Advanced R&D topics from other teams and use
that information productively in vehicle development.
_______________________________________________________________________

To Do/Action Items: Present research findings, record other teams’
research findings.
_______________________________________________________________________

Decisions: The group’s plan to use the servo as a brake instead of
coasting to brake was affirmed by the group who tested coasting vs.
power braking. Implementing the servo will be the next step of
development.
Group roles for Progress Report 2 were cemented and will
remain the same as for Progress Report 1.
_______________________________________________________________________

Reflections: The presentations were productive and effective. The team
has gathered enough information to continue development of the vehicle
in an informed manner.
