Reflectance Sensors

The purpose of the reflectance sensors it to track the displacement of the AEV. The number of rotations are recorded and from that, the distance that the AEV traveled can be accurately measured. The reflectance sensors receive data from reflective tape on the wheels. This data is then transferred to the arduino through wires, which will run the program where some commands are based on distance traveled.

Servo Motor

The purpose of the servo motor is to bring the AEV to a stop. The servo stops the AEV by moving a small arm that comes into contact with one of the wheels. This slows the AEV down similarly to how a car brakes. The advantages of the servo motor is that it uses less energy that if the AEV was stopped by reversing the motors, and it more precise and takes less time to stop compared to letting the AEV coast.
