Reflectance Sensors

The reflectance sensors provide the amount of distance covered by the AEV using the reflectant tape on the wheel. The Arduino records each time the non-reflective part of the wheel passes over the sensors. Each revolution of the wheel causes the Arduino to make eight marks, each mark translates to 0.4875 inches. Hence, the user can track the distance the AEV goes with this conversion. This proves as a vital aspect for the construction and mission of the vehicle because it must travel a total of 56 feet including 3 stops and a change in direction. To be able to start the deceleration and stop the AEV, we must know how many inches before the loading zone or gate the AEV is. The reflectance sensors will allow us to ensure smooth and accurate stops.
