AEV Key Area: Weight

Weight is one of the most important factors in our AEV project. The weight of AEV relates to the safety, speed, as well as energy costs. If the AEV weight too much, it will have a negative impact on its safety because it will be hard to brake the AEV vehicle on the rail. The weight is the key to decide how much energy we should use to brake the motor and how long we need to brake the AEV before it stops. As a result, if we cannot control our AEV well on the rail, it will not be a good vehicle for passengers to use.  In addition, the speed of the AEV plays a key role as well. If the AEV weighs too much itself, there will be problems on its speed. The AEV has to pick up the passengers at the other side of the track. We also consider the weight of passengers, those elements will influence the speed of AEV. That’s why we need to make sure the weight of AEV will not be too heavy. As a result, we are engaging in using fewer materials to make the AEV smaller and lighter. We make more compact underneath the AEV to help with weight distribution. In addition, we use only significant and necessary pieces on our AEV because we need to make our AEV slimmer and lightweight.

Compared with a heavy AEV design, the lightweight AEV design can control the speed more easily. Besides, if the AEV is heavy, in other words, we need to spend more money on energy costs. One of the goals is to make a profit, so we cannot have wasted cost in our AEV project. However, if the weight of AEV is light, there will be lots of advantages. We use less energy to run our AEV. Also, it will be safer for passengers because we can control it well and easily because of the lightweight design of AEV.
