Happy New Year! – January 1

The Extension Office is closed for business.

Camp First-Time Counselor Meeting – January 3, 6-8:30 p.m.

First-time camp counselors will meet at the Extension Office.

Ohio Fair Managers Association Junior Fair Day – January 5

Registered Junior Fair Board members will travel to the Ohio Fair Managers Conference at the Columbus Convention Center.

Mandatory Volunteer Training – January 9, 6-8 p.m.

The Muskingum County 4-H program requires ALL returning volunteers to participate in one Mandatory Volunteer Training annually to remain an approved 4-H volunteer.  This training is not for new volunteer applicants. This includes committee and camp volunteers. We will be offering three opportunities for you to complete this requirement. All trainings will take place at Rolling Plains United Methodist Church (note new location). Please RSVP online at least two days in advance so we can plan for the appropriate number of participants.

4-H CARTEENS Program – January 10

4-H CARTEENS takes place at the Muskingum County Juvenile Court. Youth interested in becoming 4-H CARTEENS volunteer presenters should contact the Extension Office for details.

State Fair Steer Registration Deadline – January 15

Submissions must be RECEIVED at the Ohio State Fair by January 15.

New Volunteer Applications Due – January 15, 4:30 p.m.

Applications can be picked up in our office or downloaded from our website at:  4-H Youth Development>Volunteer Resources.

The new volunteer selection process requires successful completion of an application, background check, interview and orientation session. All parts of the process must be completed before an applicant receives approval.

Camp Team Meeting #1 – January 17, 6-8 p.m.

Junior Camp counselors and staff will meet at the Extension Office. Campbassadors will meet at 5:15 p.m.

Junior Leaders Officer Installation & Family/Advisor Potluck – January 21, 6-8:30 p.m.

Club Volunteers are invited to join Junior Leader members and their families as they kick off the 2019 year at Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church.

State 4-H Horse Volunteer Training Session – January 26, 9 a.m.-5:00 p.m.

Dr. Kimberly Cole will host an update for 4-H Horse Volunteers at the Ohio 4-H Center. Registration is due January 15.

Junior Fair Board – January 28, 6-7:30 p.m.

Junior Fair Board will meet at the Extension Office.

Extension Advisory Committee – January 30, 6:30 p.m.

Extension Advisory Committee will meet at the Extension Office.

Club Paperwork Due – January 31, 4:30 p.m.

Each 4-H Club must submit the following in order to receive their 2019 enrollment information (Organizational Club Packet, Muskingum County 4-H Family Handbooks, 4HOnline Family Email List), which will be available January 15. Family Guides can be picked up earlier than that date if needed.

Muskingum County 4-H Scholarship Due – January 31, 4:30 p.m.

Since 2015, the Muskingum County 4-H Committee has awarded scholarships to recognize 4-H members and alumni for their achievements. In 2019, six $500 scholarships will be awarded at the 4-H Kick-Off. The application can be downloaded from our website.

Purebred Steer Registration Papers Due – January 31, 4:30 p.m.

Youth who did not submit a copy of their purebred steer’s registration paper at weigh-in in December must submit this paperwork by January 31 or the steer will be placed in Crossbred class. NO EXCEPTIONS.

Livestock Sale Committee Scholarship Application Available

Any 4-H or FFA member who graduated from high school in the spring of 2018 or will graduate in the spring of 2019; exhibited a market hog, market lamb or market steer at the 2018 Muskingum County Fair; and will be enrolled in an accredited, post-secondary institution in fall 2019 may apply for a Junior Fair Livestock Sale Committee Scholarship. Applications are available online under 4-H Youth Development>Member Resources>Older Youth Opportunities. Application, including supporting documents, are due to the Extension Office by 4:30 p.m. on February 28.  

 

Ohio 4-H Scholarships

Ohio 4-H recognizes and rewards individual excellence, whether it is in project work, leadership, citizenship or community service. Ohio 4-H Scholarships were established in 1976 in order to help young people become self-directing, productive and contributing members of society.

There are currently 36 statewide 4-H scholarships being offered.  The scholarship application can be completed online. Applications are must be completed and submitted online by February 15.

 

Updates to Ohio 4-H Cross County Lines Policy

Youth are expected to affiliate with the 4-H program in their county of residence or receive approval for membership outside their county of residence. Request forms are available online or in our office. New for 2019: Requests must be submitted by February 15, which will ensure that we are in compliance with the Ohio 4-H guideline to have requests in no later than 30 days prior to our enrollment deadline.

The new guidelines detail both acceptable and unacceptable reasons to request a transfer of membership. Please review these guidelines before submitting a request.

 

Ohio Military Kids Update

On behalf of Ohio Military Kids, we hope you have enjoyed your holiday season and will have a Happy New Year! Now that 2019 is here, the Ohio Military Kids Program has some major updates. On our website, we have posted our 2018 Year in Review video. This video highlights some of our biggest memories and experiences from the last year. Our 2019 scheduled events are also updated on our website! 

 

Do you have camp counselors who are looking for another opportunity to serve? The OMK Program is looking for qualified candidates for Camp Kelleys Island in August of 2019. Applications are linked here to our website and are due by February 15, 2019. 

 

We also have several opportunities for people to volunteer and support our program. There are events starting in April and goes throughout the entire summer and most of the fall. Please visit our website to see these opportunities.

Thank You Reverse Raffle Committee!

The Muskingum County Reverse Raffle Committee recently hosted their 5th annual event to benefit the Muskingum County 4-H Program on November 7. This year’s event was the most successful yet and we are so thankful for everyone’s support!

The 4-H Committee received $10,630.60 to support our 4-H program and $450 for camp scholarshipsThe Muskingum County 4-H Endowment received $4,555.97.
