Friend of 4-H and Montgomery Leadership Award Nominations Due – September 1

The 4-H Committee is now accepting nominations for the Muskingum County Friend of 4-H Award, which recognizes an individual, family, business or organization who has provided exceptional support to the county 4-H program.

It’s also time for outstanding 4-H volunteers to be nominated to receive the John & Dorothy Montgomery Leadership Award.

Nomination forms for both awards are available at the Extension Office or on our website under 4-H Youth Development>Volunteer Resources. Completed nominations are due to the Extension Office by September 1Because the deadline falls on Saturday, we will accept the next business day – Tuesday, September 4.

Both awards will be presented at the Volunteer Recognition Banquet on September 26.

Junior Fair Livestock Committee Applications Due – September 15

Applications are now available for the Junior Fair Livestock Committee. Members are elected by the committee to serve a three year term in one of the following areas: beef, dairy, sheep or swine. Members must be approved 4-H volunteers – if not currently a 4-H volunteer, the applicant must be willing and able to complete the 4-H Volunteer process to become an approved volunteer by March 15, 2019.

4-H Volunteer Recognition Banquet – September 26

All 2019 4-H Volunteers should have received an e-mail invitation to the 4-H Volunteer Recognition Banquet. Details can also be found in the Summer 2018 Newsletter. Deadline to RSVP is September 10.

 

 

Congratulations 2018-2019 Ohio 4-H Teen Leadership Council Members

Congratulations to Treva Hampp and Samantha Mozena, who were recently selected to serve a one year term on the Ohio 4-H Teen Leadership Council! This is their second year serving on the Council.

The Ohio 4-H Teen Leadership Council (TLC) is a statewide group of 4-H teens and young 4-H alumni that provides a youth stakeholder perspective in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of Ohio 4-H programming. In this process, council members develop knowledge, skills, attitudes, and aspirations needed for future success.  Council members share advice and recommendations to 4-H professionals in order to improve, strengthen, and expand the Ohio 4-H program.  Members also make recommendations regarding opportunities for Ohio 4-H teen programming. They serve as a sounding board for Ohio 4-H program direction.

 

4-H Goat Committee Hosting Potluck for 2018 4-H Goat Project Participants

The Muskingum County 4-H Goat Committee is inviting all Muskingum County 4-H members who participated in a goat project this year to a potluck!

When: Sunday, September 30, 4 p.m.

Where: Stoney Point Farm, 13140 Stoney Point Road, New Concord, OH 43762

The Goat Committee will provide meat, table service and drinks. They are asking each family to bring a covered dish and chairs.

Reminder: Junior Fair Swine Schedule

As previously announced, the Muskingum County Junior Fair swine schedule has changed for 2018.

The 2018 Muskingum County Junior Fair Swine schedule is:

Arrival Monday, August 13 9:00PM – Tuesday 8:00AM
Weigh-In Tuesday, August 14 8:00AM
Break Tuesday, August 14 Evening
Show Wednesday, August 15 8:00AM
Showmanship Thursday, August 16 8:00AM
Sale Friday, August 17 1:00PM
Dismissal Friday, August 17 Following Sale

Please pay close attention to the following details to make your arrival and participation in the swine activities during the Muskingum County Junior Fair a smooth and rewarding experience for your 4-H member.

  • All tack must be in place by Sunday, August 12, 2018 at 8:00AM
  • Swine Barn Meeting will be held on Sunday, August 12, 2018 at 7:00PM (NOTE: new time)
  • Arrival time: Monday, August 13, 2018, 9:00PM through Tuesday, August 14, 2018, 8:00AM (NOTE: only 11 hours)
    • Enter Fairgrounds at Gate 4 – Pershing Road.
    • Exit Fairgrounds at Gate 5 – Eppley Ave.
    • Refer to map below for traffic flow directions.
  • Wash rack will be closed beginning at 8:00am on Tuesday, August 14, 2018 and will reopen after weigh-in.

Please refer to the map below for entrance and exit locations. As a reminder, there will be NO charge for parking when trucks with trailers bring in livestock, but trailers must LEAVE after livestock is unloaded.
