HC Jr Fair Pen Updates

Greetings 4-H & Jr Fair Families!~

Whew! We survived Skillathons – thank you all for a very successful year with the Pre-Fair Judging aspect!

Now let’s touch base on all of the “FAIR STUFF” I know everyone wants to discuss!

Please be sure to read to the end of this email, as there are important things to note!!!!

In the next few weeks, we will have lots of content and information rolling out – – I’m doing it in small chunks to not overwhelm anyone! Obviously, you will see the information provided in today’s update.

Next week we will look at electrical hookup information, fans, tacks, wash rack info as well as [hopefully] a walk through of the overall set up – as well as move-in, move-out and parking information.

Myself, the HCAIA and Henry Co. Sr. Fair Board are working hard to have a great fair yet again and we are all excited to have everyone (literally) under one roof! So let’s jump in!

Henry Co. Jr Fair Sawdust Fundraiser

LIVESTOCK PENS – Swine, Goats, Sheep

  • For all that attended Livestock Skillathon, you got to see one pen set up!
  • Pens are 6’x6′
  • There are bars on the sides of the pens to secure any buckets, feeders or waterers if needed.
  • Bedding expected: Sawdust, cedar or uncolored mulch – NO STRAW is permitted.
  • Tack Platforms were purchased thanks to the Henry County Pork Producers, the Henry Co. Ag Improvement Association & Henry Co. Jr Fair Board (check them out using the link at the end of the email)
  • These will be available to use at fair this year!

CATTLE PANELS – Breeding Dairy & Cattle

  • If you attended Livestock Skillathon, you got to see an example of how the panels will be set up.
  • Families are to provide their own panel dividers if you wish to separate yourself from others (the black panel you saw)
  • Ridgeville Elevator can order them if you’d like to order (check them out using the link at the end of the email)
  • You ARE permitted to drill into these panels for your dividers or fan attachments
  • More info on fan usage in next week’s email.
  • Henry Co. Cattlemen’s Association has purchased mulch & more information to follow

GENERAL BUILDING UPDATE

  • Temporary Occupancy was granted last week which has given way to the home stretch!
  • Wednesday night, the last of the speaker wires were ran for the sound system
  • Paving in front of the building was finished
  • Dirt was hauled in for landscape in front of the building
  • Leveling around the building continues to move forward!

Younger Youth Opportunities

Greetings Cloverbud Families!~

I’m sure you all are enjoying your busy, busy summer! I wanted to highlight a few Cloverbud-age activities you will likely want to add to your calendar!

July:

August:

  • Cloverbud Graduation – August 13, 2025 – 10:00a
    • At the Ag Hall at the Henry Co. Fair
    • What is it? – A recognition of all of our 4-H Cloverbuds eligible to graduate into traditional 4-H members in the upcoming year. However, we recognize ALL Cloverbuds in each club REGARDLESS of their “graduation year.” (Gradates receive a Cloverbud Cap and all other attendees receive a 4-H water bottle & sticker for attending) – This is a great program to attend on Kids Day at the Fair
  • Kids Day – August 13 – 1:00p-3:00p
    • At the South Merchant Pavilion at the Henry Co. Fair
    • Join the Henry Co. Jr. Fair Board, and other community organizations in hosting a fun-filled kids day full of activities and swag – Rides a the fair are also discounted this day as well!

We look forward to seeing you in the coming months!

Coming in July…

Hi Families!

Whew! We survived June (barely). While I’m sure many of you are looking forward to the 4th & kicking up your heels – please be sure to make note of a few IMPORTANT notes!

Project Judging Week is July 7-10th – – Visit the PAGE for more information

  • Livestock Skillathons are July 7 & 8 at the Fairgrounds*
    • If you need to verify your FairEntries, they will be available to double check at Skillathon
  • Still Projects are July 9 & 10 at the Napoleon American Legion

*If you ordered a Skillathon Kit – it is ready to be picked up at the Extension Office!

Henry County Fair – – August 7-14, 2025

  • Now that Morgan has survived fair & is starting to put her fair hat on – we’re excited to roll out a TON of new information.
    • The rumormill just keeps turning & just like last year, I am doing my darnedest to help organize & facilitate a great fair just as we have done for SO MANY years.
    • Please have faith that the information I’m working to curate right now will provide you with as much insight as possible!
  • Starting with what we need NOW:
    • MARKET ANIMALS – Sale Destination location – PLEASE have this identified by Skillathon! If we don’t have the information, we will ask for it AT Skillathon!
    • PEN REQUEST FORM – I know this was included in some of your FairEntry questions – but I didn’t like how the data pulled, so I’m asking all LARGE ANIMAL exhibitors to complete again (sorry for the inconvenience). I would like to have this information submitted BY SKILLATHON.
    • MARKET Buyer Networking Help Sheet – Take some time to visit this help sheet to help set you up for success if you are bringing a Market Project to the Fair.
    • 2025 Henry Co. Jr Fair Schedule
  • More to come (what is currently “in the works”)…
    • Move-In Protocol
    • What should I bring to fair?
    • What do the pens/ties look like?
    • Move-Out Protocol

Keep working hard & if you haven’t started on those record books – let’s get those started TODAY!

Have you thought about the Livestock Sale?

But we JUST finished our Fair Entries!

Yes, I know, but the Livestock Sale Committee is also working to push out information to our Livestock Buyers!

If you are a Market Exhibitor – PLEASE complete the Livestock Destination Form – please identify if your animal will be going “on the truck” = Livestock Support Buyer; Custom Appointment (must be arranged ahead of time with a processor); or if your animal will return home.

Wondering about the Sale Order? Not sure what to expect with the Livestock Sale?
