2023 Quality Assurance Dates Announced

Be sure to add these dates to your calendars! This year we will offer a total of 13 Quality Assurance or “QA” opportunities!

As a reminder, QA is required by the Ohio Department of Agriculture (ODA). This is a requirement by the State, not just our counties!

In 2023, we’ll be offering Quality Assurance via 4 different avenues – regardless, QA should be completed by June 25th to be eligible for the Henry County Fair…

  1. Northwest Ohio QA – There are a total 10 opportunities from 4-H Educators across Northwest Ohio. These opportunities are via Zoom OR Live & In-person. Registration for Zoom Opportunities will be REQUIRED in order to receive the Zoom meeting link!
  2. Henry County Clinics – 3 clinics will be offered in 2023. See dates >>> HERE
  3. Test-Out Option The Test Out option in Henry County is by appointment only. Members 12 years old & older are the only members eligible to test out for their age division. Divisions are: 12-14 & 15-18 for Small Animals & Large Animals. Youth receive one chance to take the exam. If they do not pass the first time they must sit through a QA session must pass with a 70% or higher.
  4. Online YQCA – permitted  for youth, age 12 as of January 1 and older. YQCA is in partnership with The Ohio State University’s College of Food, Agricultural and Environmental Sciences (CFAES), OSU Extension 4-H Youth Development program and ODA. See THIS PAGE for more information.

What’s Morgan up to?

Hey Guys!

I spent the day in Columbus attending ChickQuest training! What’s ChickQuest you may ask? This program is sponsored by the Ohio Soybean Council – it is a classroom journey through the life cycle of chickens.

I’m excited to bring home curriculum & equipment to potentially offer this program to area schools! With this program, 3rd grade classrooms are able to fulfill their lifecycle education standard in a fun, interactive way.

Students will gather data, may observations, perform experiments on eggs and actually [hopefully] hatch an egg within their classroom. This would be a unique opportunity to bridge 4-H with classroom learning! Check out some fun things we saw at our training today!

Holy Cow Camp Counselors!

BIG, HUGE Thank you to all of the Camp Counselors that have applied for the 2023 camp season!

We had a total of 73 teens apply! (WOW) 37 of those were returning counselors & 36 of those applicants were NEW counselors!

We are excited to begin the selection process! All Counselors MUST sign up for an interview time NO LATER than FRIDAY November 18th!

Henry County Jr. Fair Wins!

The results are in!…
Henry County Junior Fair Board came in FIRST PLACE place in the Farm Credit Mid-America “Fight the Hunger – Stock the Trailer” food drive! This was a competition against surrounding counties in Northwest Ohio. Henry County won with a total of 9380 pounds! Defiance County was a close second, having raised 9300 pounds (Bravo Northwest Ohio!)
The Henry County Junior Fair Board will receive $5000 at our December meeting for our first-place finish.
Henry County Jr. Fair Board would like to thank the Henry County Cattlemen’s Association, the Henry County Pork Producers, Campbell’s Soup as well as all of the Community Donations collected during the 2022 Henry County Fair- without everyone’s support, there is no way this would have been possible! Our donations were able to serve a multitude of pantries and food banks in the area. Thanks again Henry County for your OUTSTANDING support!
(An even bigger thanks to our SFB members for helping with donation logistics during the fair as well as dispersal after the conclusion of the contest)
