CFAES Outstanding Seniors of 2012; Where are they now?

Each year the College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences recognizes 20 outstanding seniors at the annual recognition program.
In 2012, five students from the Department of Agricultural Communication, Education, and Leadership were recognized as outstanding seniors in CFAES.

Join us in taking a look back at the outstanding seniors from our department from 2012 and where they are now.

Elizabeth (Heitkamp) Coons
Majoring in agricultural communication, Coons graduated with her bachelor’s degree in 2012. She is currently located in Yorkshire, Ohio, working as a sales and marketing coordinator. In this position, Coons’ responsibilities include assisting with many marketing efforts in both print and Web design; updating company sites; sending weekly, corporate emails; serving as a content writer and editor for the company; and assisting the Marketing Department with photo sessions. In 2011, she married David Coons; and they now have a son, George, born on December 20, 2013. She is also an active CFAES Alumni Board Member and serves as the secretary.

Hannah (Crossen) Everetts
Hannah majored in Agricultural and Extension Education and graduated with her bachelor’s degree in 2012. Since graduation, Everetts worked for Farm Rescue out of North Dakota, and later worked at CEV Multimedia in Texas. In 2013, she took a teaching position at North Union High School, before moving to Edon, Ohio, where she is now an Agricultural Educator and FFA Advisor. She also recently married Chris Everetts in June 2015; and, together, they have a farming operation and farm with his family as well.

 

Dustin Homan
Dustin majored in Agricultural and Extension Education (Leadership Option) in 2012. He is now living in Columbus, Ohio, pursuing a master’s degree in Agricultural and Extension Education – Leadership, at The Ohio State University. Recently, Homan has spent eight months in Ghana helping expand and enhance 4-H programming by training 4-H advisors and writing funding proposals.

Alissa Malott
Graduating in 2012 with her bachelor’s degree, Alissa majored in agricultural education. She is now located in Bloomdale, Ohio, employed at Elmwood High School as the agricultural education instructor. She is also an FFA Advisor.

If you are a current senior in the College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences, the application form for the 2016 Outstanding Senior Award is now available at http://go.osu.edu/cfaes-outstanding-senior.  To qualify for consideration, applicants must have a 3.00 cumulative GPA at the time of application and be graduating during the 2016 calendar year. Selections are made based on the applicant’s record of scholarship, leadership, professional and personal growth and involvement in the community, both within OSU and beyond. The deadline for applications is December 16. All applications will be reviewed in January. A group of students will be selected, from all who apply, to interview with the selection committee in February. The group of Outstanding Seniors will be recognized at the CFAES Recognition Program on April 7, 2016. Contact Dr. Marilyn Trefz (.2) should you have questions.
