At our last meeting of the semester, Christian from SUNY College of Optometry came in to tell us about the program. Thank you so much Christian!
SUNY is located in the heart of New York City and has 18 stories that each have their own character and purpose. Due to its prime location, students are exposed to a wide range of patients and have the opportunity to see many different conditions Therefore, students can be sure that they will be ready to practice in any area of the United States after their time at SUNY. SUNY has the goal to ensure that all of their students end up in their dream job by five years after they graduate. In order to achieve this goal, they offer career counseling, mock interviews, and even a peer mentor system. About forty percent of students go on to participate in residencies immediately after Optometry school. SUNY also has an option that allows students to receive a certificate for an MBA for business in an eyecare practice, which highly prepares them to own a private practice in the future. You also have the option to obtain a full MBA degree as well, but there is an additional tuition cost. Furthermore, students have the option to do research if they are interested. SUNY encourages involvement outside of the classroom and offers over twenty-one clubs to participate in. In-state tuition is about $29,820 and out of state tuition is about $51,150, but all students will receive in-state tuition after their first year.
Thank you again Christian. We appreciated the opportunity to hear more about SUNY and we hope you enjoyed your time in Ohio!
